We are a UK couple going on a cruise from Brisbane to PNG. Do we need local currency for small purchases when ashore or are Aussie dollars acceptable? Thanks in anticipation.

1. Re: Currency

generally only PGK - locals dont know the exchange rate and are suspicious of old or fake bills

in the larger cities you should find people who do know and are prepared to exchange but dont count on it

have a great trip

3. Re: Currency

in the more remote places they have no banks and you will find the locals offering you AUD notes and coins that they have been given and want to exchange for PGK
