Hi

I live in Laos and have toured a lot over the years on different bikes. It is one of the best Asian countries to tour on bikes as it has so little traffic, relatively speaking

The roads are not great - expect potholes and slippy gravel on corners - and assume the worst on blind bends - but much safer than Vietnam or India for example.

Thank you for your update. Is there a 10 days route which you would suggest? And a motorbike rental company.? Thanks indeed

If you want a 250cc then Jules' in Vientiane has a good choice from about $30/day upwards. If a 125cc is ok then there are many places in Vientiane - now around $10/day.

In 10 days you could go Vientiane - vang vieng - luang prabang - phou khoun - phonsavanh - paksan - Vientiane. This would be about 25 hours riding total.

Hi Alberto

I want to give you some tips:

* If you are experienced bikers follow this program:

1. Vientiane - Pak Lay (ride a long Mekong river) some dirt road

2. Pak Lay - Hong Sa - Xieng Ngeun (ride alonng Thai's border, some difficult offroad)

3. Xieng Ngeun - Pak Tha ferry to Pak Khop - Huay Xai (still follow Thai's border, some very difficult offroad)

4. Huay Xai - Xieng Dao - Muang Mung (drive along Myanmar border, if you are stopped by border guard then try to be nice, show your passport, you may have channce to stop for some nice "laos lau", chance to join their lunch other while you must buy some picnic luch from Huay Xai. very nice offroad, poor accommodation in Muang Mung, try to order dinner as soon as you arrive. there are 3 local restaurant here but they closed at 7:00PM. Along the road you will see many Akha ethnic villages)

5. Xieng Dao - Xieng Kok - Long - Luang Nam Tha (nice offroad, buy picnic lunch at Long and bring with)

6. Luang nam Tha - Oudomxay - Luang Prabang (old paved road with some broken part)

7. Luang Prang, relax and walk to visit the city, don't forget to wakl in the night market.

8. Luang Prabang - Phonsavan (wake up early and walk to the night market street waiting then you will see beautiful picture of LPB. For the road, if you can find the offroad for 160km, if not take a beautiful pave road pass by Phou Khoun for 230km. easy day)

9. ask for a map from your hotel and explore the Plain of Jars (site 1, 2 and villages, waterfall around)

10. Luang Prabang - Vientiane (you have 2 option of road, both are nice)

* If you are not an experienced bikers:

1. Vientiane - Vang Vieng

2. Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang

3. Luang Prabang

4. Luang Prabang - Pak Mong - Nong Khiew

5. boat trip and trek

6. Nong Khiew - Vieng Thong - Sam Nua - Vieng Xay

7. Vieng Xay - Sam Nua - Phonsavan

8. Phonsavan visit Plain of Jars

9. Phonsavan - Tha Thom

10. Tha Thom - road 13 - Vientiane.

Above are very intereesting loop for motorbike tour in Laos, the offroad itineraryy is much better than the paved road. You will ride for the best remote trip in Laos.

Motorbike rental: check carefully the contract, ask them for tolls and spare parts.

One you are inside the city of LPB, the road along Mekong and Nam Khan river is ONE WAY, never driver with your left handside is the river. there is not notice board but the police may stop you for the fine

Cheers

8. Re: motorbike tour

only one more question. The route which you kindly suggested is a mountain route or is in the valleys. I like curvy mountain routes with the motorbikes. just let me know if you have the time.

Ciao Panicale

That is mountain road with many shape curves, you should keep in mind this option is offroad adventure with crossinng rivers, dirt...riding through the wilderness area in Laos so it is not for everyone.

If you want to see the pictures and get more information then just drop me a message.

Cheers
