Is there cell phone service between the mainland and Hawaii - without roaming charges? I have Verizon. Thanks.
Yes it is same as any other state. Service in towns is quite good...a few rural areas (road to Waimea canyon) will have spotty service.
Just to add...............charges for roaming will depend on your plan. Best to check it before arriving in Hawaii.
Verizon works the best IMO. There are indeed some spots where you will get no service but I do not have any roaming charges with my plan.
We are also on Verizon and do not pay roaming charges while on Hawaii. My husband tells me its part of the basic plan. I think the only places on Kauai where we could not get cell service was Polihale, Koke'e and Ke'e. We stay at Hanalei Colony Resort on occasion and we get great cell service there. There used to be a spot in the tree tunnel where our calls would drop off but we have not experienced that in the past year or so.
I was recently surprised when I was at Lihue Airport Cell Phone parking area waiting for call from an arriving friend and realized I had no reception ("bars") on my T-Mobile phone. I moved to a nearby location and reception was OK.
Good to know info about Verizon, but how about other service providers like straight talk?
SW are there US plans that don't include Hawaii? I haven't seen any lately.
DH has ATT and it is fine. Straight talk works off of other networks I think so should be ok.
