Halfway point between North Cascades NP and Boise - ideas?

As part of our three week circle tour in the northwest we'll be driving from North Cascades NP to Boise (spending a couple days in Boise). Since it's a long drive, where would you recommend spending a night roughly half way between? We're always up for a nice, laid back small town with breweries, fun things to see and do and decent lodging choices. TIA.

Walla Walla fits the bill.

Walla Walla is regularly recommended here. I've never been, but if you decided on Walla Walla, I would comment that the slightly longer route from Winthrop to Walla Walla via Coolee Dam then south to Washtucna for a stop at nearby Palouse Falls might be interesting.

If you're heading to Walla Walla and from there to Boise, don't miss Monteillet Fromagerie between WW and Dayton. We stopped there and had a memorable wine and cheese tasting with the owners and a few other guests. Dayton and Waitesburg are both interesting and cute towns. Agree with the advice to visit Palouse Falls, an amazing place.

Dayton is lovely. Walla Walla is one of the prettiest towns in the state. You are in for a treat, so take your time, and don't rush.

How about Winthrop?

And where are you staying for your North Cascades NP tourism?

I'm planning on starting early from either Seattle or somewhere north a bit. We'd like to spend one day in Seattle before we head out. From what I've read (a lot!), N. Cascades is almost more of a day trip with several short trails available and lots of stops for views. That's pretty much we're looking for on this adventure. And thanks, btw, for the Winthrop suggestion. The more I read, the more I'm leaning that way for a night.
