New Zealand - Abel Tasman National Park and Queen CharlotteW

If we have four or five nights and want to spend a day in Abel Tasman National Park and walk a day on the Queen Charlotte Track, would you suggest staying in Nelson and driving between the two, or staying two nights in Motueka and two nights in the Marlborough Sound area?

its a 3 hour drive from marahau or kaiteriteri to picton over a couple of twisty saddles. you dont want to be driving back and forth. marahau is the southern entrance to the park. What time of the year are you travelling? instead of motueka i would very much suggest you stay in kaiteriteri or marahau. this would be my recommendation - dusk and dawn at the most stunning times at the golden sand beach https://www.kaiterimotelsandapartments.co.nz/

And then two nights in picton.

When you want to visit 2 totally different areas, then definitely a minimum of 2N in each place.

Marahau works if you want to save money by walking out of ATNP; but if you are going to water taxi in AND out Kaiteriteri has more options.

Then 2N in Picton or at a lodge out in QCT - Punga Cove, Furneaux Lodge, or Lochmara...
