Hi, have already asked about walks around Queenstown, but what walks can we do from Queenstown CBD as we have no car. Have to be able to get to these walks by foot from our hotel Queenstown House if possible, thanks.

the walk around the botanical gardens is lovely from the cbd. you can also walk in the other direction along the lake. the queenstown hill is a fantastic walk with views - but its a steep walk up to the basket of dreams. Lovely walking and cycling trail along to frankton arm. you can also hire bikes and bike to arrowtown.

if you fit and active the ben lomond walk is accessible from top of gondola in summer.

Frankton Track goes from downtown Queenstown all the way along Frankton Arm (to near the airport) across the opposite of Frankton Arm - all the way along Kelvin Heights Peninsula. Then actually connects to a lakeside trail all the way to Jacks Point. ... it's unlikely that you'd want to walk that in its entirety!!!

However, the local buses will easily take you to many points from which you can walk. - there's a bus all the way out Kelvin Heights.

You could also bus to Arrowtown, and there are many walks from downtown- Arrow River Trail - down stream to the 2nd bridge then loops back. Across the first bridge and up Tobins Track (or peel off halfway up Tobins for New Chums). Upriver (the road to Macetown) - go as far as you like... it's a nice walk up to a red footbridge. Sawpit Gully, Bush Creek...

A big advantage of the walk towards Macetown over anything you have at home is that the worst critter to attack you will be a rabbit!

Spare a thought for the goldmines sleeling in the rough..

1) Is it possible to either take a rented bike from Queenstown on the bus to Arrowtown, or rent a bike at Arrowtown ?

2) Do I need to book for a few nights at a hotel at Arrowtown in order to do most walks from downtown as PineappleSensei suggests : "Arrow River Trail ; Across the first bridge and up Tobins Track (or peel off halfway up Tobins for New Chums). Upriver (the road to Macetown) - go as far as you like... it's a nice walk up to a red footbridge. Sawpit Gully, Bush Creek..." ?

Thank you all !

1. The Buses will take bikes (on a rack at the front) BUT I'm not sure whether you'd be allowed to put rentals there - best to check with the rental companies (as it would be the rental, rather than the bus driver who makes the decision).

YES, there are two bike rental agencies based in Arrowtown - Better By Bike, and Arrowtown Bike Hire.

2. There aren't really any 'hotels' in Arrowtown - more motels/ short term rentals, New Orleans (Pub) and Millbrook Resort.

Staying in Arrowtown is lovely change of scenery from Queenstowns busy-ness. On the flip side - public buses regularly travel between Queenstown and Arrowtown.

Better by Bikes offer a return shuttle as an "add on".
