FIFA world cup matches

Hello,

We are visiting Christchurch in a few days. We would like to see the March of Belgium against France (world cup semi's). Any idea where we could go?

Thanks!

The cluster of bars around Merivale (JDV, Verandah Bar, Number 4 etc) and the Carlton at the Papanui Rd corner are sure to be showing it.

Pegasus Arms is screening all games, no matter what time, but I think you have to book for ones outside normal opening hours (free to book, it's to get around liquor law issues I think)

The world cup is one of the few times that you can discuss soccer openly in Christchurch.

Are you sure about the “openly”, Mike? I thought you still needed a certificate of exemption from the Rugby Union?

It's not so much the Rugby Union, but one eyed Cantabs :)

I guess there is quite a proportion of our population that is ex-pat of less than 10 years where the rules aren't quite so strict. Heard of one guy who admitted to being interested in tidly winks and was exiled to Wellington:)

The usual cover story for being caught watching the round ball game is that you heard two types of grass had been planted and you are watching to see which one was faster.
