Hello all,

My husband, our 4 year old and I are travelling to the South Island in May. I’m looking for ‘must do’ tours and activities in the following areas that are child friendly too 😊

We are visiting the following places:

- Christchurch

- Akaroa

- Oamaru

- Dunedin - penguin tour

- Queenstown

- Wanaka

- Twizel/Lake Tekapo

have you looked up trip advisor recommendations for things to do. thousands of ratings from travellers and its a great start when doing research and planning itineraries.

how many days do you have for your itinerary? do you have at least 2 nights in each place? or more in some?

For Dunedin

Note there is a penguin evening tour in Oamaru

https://www.penguins.co.nz

While from Dunedin you can take tours to see penguins, seals, sea lions and albatross

Oamaru also has the Victorian heritage area and the Steam Punk Museum

Impossible to answer without knowing your interests/budget/fitness level, as well as the time available. If you are taking the minimum 10-12 days for this loop you will have less than 1 full day at each place. Why did you choose these places?

In Christchurch you could ride the heritage tram; visit Margaret Mahy Playground, Willowbank Wildlife Reserve, Antarctic Centre, Ferrymead historic park, He Puna Taimoana hot pools & the Botanic Gardens.

In Akaroa you can do a dolphin cruise, penguin tour and visit the Giant's House. If you have 2 days or more you could include the alpaca farm. and the Children's Bay walk.
