Which Hot Pools / Accommodation?

Wife & I are looking at a few days in Taupo early November and want advise on Hot Pools / Accommodation please

Both the Wairekei Resort and De Bretts hotel have hot pools on site (although De bretts you still have to pay) However both of these places are not really near the centre of town....

De bretts has the advantage of having motel style accommodation that has kitchens or kitchenettes where you can prepare / cook meals, but Wairekei resort is a full hotel with restaurant and no kitchen facilities in room.

I'm favouring accommodation with cooking facilities, but wife likes the fact that the pools are free if we stay at the Wairekei resort

would we be better to stay in town and just go to the hot pools separately?

It looks like there is also another dedicated Hot Pools site near the Wairekei resort?

any advice on what hot pools are better or accommodation options would be great thanks

Kia ora,

we did stay in a couple of motels near town years ago that had smaller hot pools, but in the end when staying in Taupo always stayed at DeBretts as the pools are really good there.

Alternatively, consider Rotorua - we sometimes stay at Aura which has thermal heating and pools and right in town and we find Rotorua very interesting.

Our stay at de Bretts was very enjoyable. We didn't notice the short distance to drive to Taupo's town centre, anything to be concerned over.

There are also the AC Baths close to the town centre, and there are motels near the lake front. Some with lake views.

Near the AC Baths is the Lake Taupo Resort with onsite thermally heated pool - https://www.laketauporesort.co.nz/

Have a look at http://nzhotpools.co.nz . Under their regions heading there is a list of 20 Taupo hot pools including 9 h/motels & camping grounds with such. Also read the warning about immersion in natural pools

Hi, the Wairakei hot pools are R14 and so child free. They are set in a stunning settling and very beautiful and well maintained. We come lots of times to Taupo and definitely come here over DeBretts now that we don't have our kids with us. If you decide to come - go to Grabone and get some vouchers for the hot pools. Will save you $10 per person.
