Is it possible to walk into the local town for dinner? We have a booking with the chateau for a night BUT no room available,for,us to dine there. They seem to think we would have to catch a cab to Bordeaux to eat dinner, which seems illogical, given reviews of local places on TA.

93 helpful votes There are trams from Pessac into Bordeaux Centre, a mere €1,40 each way.
Pessac centre is about 1.4km from the Chateau, ie 15 minutes walk at the most. That's also the location of the nearest tram stop at Pessac railway station, so if you felt the need it's easy to get into the heart of Bordeaux without splashing out on a taxi.
As you say, Pessac does have places to go.
http://Www.infotbc.com tells me we will need both a tram and a bus to get to the Chateau from Bordeaux... The A tram and the line 42 or 23 bus. It's as if the staff at the chateau don't want tourists to know the local options, which seems strange.

93 helpful votes Well they may normally not want you to go elsewhere but as they cannot accommodate you it does seem a bit odd. Those buses are the alternative to a 15 minute walk.
The 42 does not run after about 730pm and not at all on Sundays, the 23 runs until about 9pm.
