Hi! I will be in Mestre for couple of days and I want to inquire about the times of the buses within Mestre. When do they stop running? Do I prebuy a pass or can I pay on the spot? Thanks !
Mestre buses run from early in the morning until late at night. There are numerous points of sale for Mestre bus tickets in various shops and vending machines located throughout the city.
You must possess a ticket before you enter the bus and you must validate it when you get on.
If you plan to travel by bus frequently, you may want to buy a Tourist Travel Card ACTV, which entitles you to unlimited use of the ACTV Mestre land bus and tram service.
Where are the stops in Mestre to go to Venice Piazzale Roma? Is there one by the train station? As I understand the ACTV 3 day pass does not include train-rides.
Edited: 1 year agoThe Tourist Travel Card ACTV entitles you to unlimited use of the waterbuses (vaporetti) serving Venice and the islands of the lagoon, and to unlimited use of ACTV Mestre land bus and tram service to and from Venice and in Mestre itself—and land buses on Lido.
For an extra €7 (one-way) or €13 (round-trip), you can travel between Venice Marco Polo Airport and the city with your Tourist Travel Card by ACTV land bus. These one-way and round-trip add-ons must be used within the time-frame of your pass. (The bus directly from the airport normally costs €10 one way and €18 round trip without the add-on.)
The card does not cover train travel, except for the one-day pass: ACTV 1 day Transport VENEZIA DAILY PASSACTV Public Transport Services (vaporetto and buses in the City of Venice, Tram/ People Mover) + Trenitalia urban network € 25,00. Validity: 1 day (24 hours.) It includes ACTV Public Transport Services: vaporetto, buses in the City of Venice, Tram, People Mover service (Piazzale Roma - Maritime Station - Tronchetto) and the Trenitalia train service on Regional (R) and Fast Regional (RV) trains within the territory of the municipality of Venice (Venezia S. Lucia, Venezia P.to Marghera, Venezia Mestre, Venezia Carpenedo, Venezia Mestre Ospedale).
Note that Alilaguna is a separate company from ACTV, the transit authority that runs Venice's public vaporetti and land buses. ACTV's Tourist Travel Cards do not cover transportation on Alilaguna airport boats.
ACTV Tourist Travel Cards, which can be purchased either online, at the airport, in Mestre, or in Venice, are a tremendous bargain that will pay for themselves many times over during your visit to Venice. The link below will provide information about cost and card selection, regardless of where you plan to make your purchase. (If you purchase online you must print and later exchange a voucher for the actual Tourist Travel Card at designated ACTV locations.)

The validity of an ACTV Travel Card (also known as a “pass”) starts from the exact moment of the first validation.
Each ACTV “pass” starts when it is first activated, not when you first collect it, and ends exactly 72 hours later for the three-day pass, for example.
If your first trip begins at 6 p.m. on a Tuesday, the three-day pass will be valid until 5:59 p.m. on a Friday.
You must complete your final journey before the pass expires.
Validate your ticket before you get on the vaporetto. If you do not validate the ticket you can be fined.
To validate the ticket, pass the card in front of the sensor in the center of the validation machine before entering the boarding area; a green light and a beep will confirm that the validation has been successful. A red light and buzz indicate that there is a problem and the ticket has not been correctly validated or has expired.
And you must also pass the card in front of the sensor in the center of the validation machine before entering the boarding area for every subsequent trip.
