I was there last September when there was building work going on across the road from the Amavi, next door to the old Aloe Hotel. There didn't seem much work going on at the time, so I'm not sure what it is like now.

If you mean the tall tower block, it was on-going in late November and still is now, according to some YouTube videos.

The structure is up and they seem to be doing mainly finishing / internal works. There wasn't any significant noise when we walked past.

As all the rooms at the Amavi are facing the sea, I doubt that you'll even know the work is going on (if that's what concerns you).

We decided to avoid the Amavi while this work is going on as we usually book a junior suite & they have wrap around balconies some of which are at the car park end so would be exposed to any building noise. I believe they will be constructing another tall apartment block when this one is finished so we will stick to The Olympic Lagoon for the time being.

It’s construction at the harbour that’s the problem! Now extended along the entire sea front with shops and restaurants awnings removed and some closed completely while works taking place. See Paphos Life’s video. Then again probably not much of an issue for those staying in an AI resort.

Just watched that video and it looks awful.

Barriers all over the place, shop / restaurant fronts being torn apart, places closed.

What on earth made them start this work just as the season was starting??

Currently at the Athena Royal. The monstrous tower block behind the Amavi, slightly further on looks like it’s reached its height. Does not affect Amavi rooms as they are all front sea view. We are booked for Amavi next February and are not worried. Would suggest requesting a room towards the town centre to be away from the empty land/car park. The real problems at the moment involve the main tourist harbour area and lack of information when it will be completed.

3 days ago they closed off the front shopping area and under a dictate from the new mayor removed awnings and shop signs which the previous mayor had said were ok. Everything is highly political. The area behind the main front which has all the bars frequented by younger people is like a war zone with derelict buildings and huge amounts of graffiti. This area has been the subject of most complaints and request to clear up.

They have renovated the main harbour area but have installed 3 strange metal rectangular buildings which no one seems to know what they are.

The main annoyance for us is that the main coastal path towards Coral Bay is blocked off at the end of the harbour due to building a new development. As a result you cannot reach the path without a massive detour via the Tomb of the Kings. Absolutely no information when it will reopen. This was always our main walk of about 10 miles and one of the the most popular walks in Paphos.

The best place for updates and videos is Paphos Life on Facebook. We will be keeping a watch on it but are seriously considering changing to a quiet holiday in Pissouri.

“…….. under a dictate from the new mayor”

Who is the new mayor?

AFAIK, Phedon Phedonos who was elected in 2015 is still the mayor.

Thank you very much IGD for your report.

We were thinking of booking for May but , like you, the main attraction was the lovely coastal walk from the Harbour up past the archaelogical site .

What on earth is the “ development” going on here.

Surely not a hotel or another high rise apartment block ???

Destroying the lovely views ??

We”ll book another destination for May, sadly.

The artists impression make it look like a small complex although you can never tell. The problem is that is not even started. If they keep the path closed it will be ages. I have emailed the Tourist board but no response yet.
