Hike from Fira to Oia

Hike from Fira to Oia

Hi all

We planning to be in Santorini next year may.. And I want to do the hike to oia...Our hotel is in imerovigli so I thought rather of going to Fira we rather start from imerovigli..

Will I be able to do this?

Is the path easy to nativgate around? Will I have no trouble finding my way?

Also can we use the bus to come back to imerovigli? Will they be busses available at about 10/11 pm? If not will I be able to get a taxi easier and from where?

Yes, very easy.

We hiked from Firastefani to Oia (passing through Imerovigli). You can get a taxi back but when we were there in September, supply was lower than demand.

IMO, the highlight of the hike is Skaros Rock. If you are staying on the caldera, I don't think the views you get on the full hike add a ton. If you plan on going to Naxos (a fantastic island to pair with Santorini IMO), a much more interesting hike is Mt. Zas. TBH, neither my wife or I were overly impressed with Oia. It's kind of the LA of Santorini. Mobbed with lemmings from the cruise ships. No real culture to speak of. As soon as we got to Oia, we grabbed a quick gelato, and then hightailed it back to our oasis at Homeric Poems in Firastefani.

You won't get lost. The path is clearly defined and once you're on it there's nowhere to go but towards Oia. I'm not sure when the last bus will leave Oia for Imerovigli but you will be able to determine that once you're there. Taxis will also be available in the Oia bus square.

Definitely do the hike. We did it from Firastefani passing through Imerovigli onto Oia.

There is a great post about the hike on Santorini Dave’s website

https://santorinidave.com/fira-oia-hike

It shows you all the pitfalls and signposts along the way and has lots of great information. The best I found about the hike.

We went in August and left about 7.30-8.00 am. We had breakfast in Imerovigli then went onto Oia.

We were a family of four and we all really enjoyed the hike which gave lots of different aspects of the Caldera view. It’s also a great sense of achievement looking back later at how far you have walked.

When we arrived in Oia we had some lunch and then looked around and caught a bus back to Firastefani. Our bus stopped at Imerovigli. The bus stop was behind the town so definitely look up where that is before you get there. We didn’t love Oia too much...it is definitely picturesque but has too many people and was crowded and around 12-1pm it started getting lots more people heading in.....I can’t even imagine what sunset would be like!!!

There is a small section of the hike after Imerovigli that goes onto the road so I was glad I had the above information and knew about this

I highly recommend doing the hike

Enjoy

Thanks so much everyone..

We are vegetarian. We eat no fish and no meat...

Will they be enough food options for us?

Also how strict is Greece laws about frying chips and that in separate oil rather then with fish?

Also I would love to try the Greek gyro. Do they have vegetarian options and what goes in there?

I'm a vegetarian too. I've never had a problem finding good things to eat.

My prior post on this hike https://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowUserReviews-g… may help - in my personal opinion the Imer to Oia stretch was most scenic, but we split the walk into two sections over separate evenings, walking one-way, and returning by bus after dinner.

Thanks in advance.

Dean E, I think the best place to watch the sunset near Oia is along the hiking trail back to Fira. Walk out of the village along the main road, just past the settlement of Finikia, until you see this bus stop across from Agnadi Villas: https://tinyurl.com/y8f8eua6

Alongside this bus stop you will see a flight of steps going up to the cliff: https://tinyurl.com/yc3emtvc

This is what you'll see at the top: https://tinyurl.com/yd9g3w7b

Now for my last question

I have dollars. Where in Santorini can I convert that to euros? . I know if I do it at the airport I will get charged heavy commission...
