Can someone confirm whether or not the “indicated/expected” quarantine below was in fact announced on March 13?

“Everything indicates that Madeira is preparing to quarantine all passengers arriving at the airport. As is already the case in the Azores, which decreed the measure last night, Madeira is also expected to announce from 5 pm today, in a press conference at Quinta Vigia, which it will put in prophylactic isolation, with surveillance during 14 days after arrival, all persons who disembark in the Region.”

Do you have a source for this information?

Certainly the travel advice service run by Gov.uk has not mentioned any such things and as I said in another post Gov.uk is passing on info to UK citizens just as soon as UK Government hears it officially.

That information was prior to the announcement by the Madeira Government - https://www.madeiraislandnews.com/2020/03/ma… - and was mostly speculation about what might happen. The actual situation is in the link above but I would not be surprised if there are further developments.

Presumably that would mean if you arrive for a 14 day holiday you will spend all of it isolated in quarantine? Not much point in travelling at all, better stay at home??

That's how it reads to me. Cancel and ask for your money back.

The Azores did indeed announce this measure on Thursday.

The latest travel information issued to UK travellers at 23.12 hours last night makes no mention of any such restrictions in the Azores or Madeira.

Far better if they simply banned tourist flights and then, at least, people could claim on their insurance. As it is they are in a lose-lose situation.

Cubsur (post #7): Please quote or give the official source for this. You seem to know about it but the UK Foreign Office (responsible for travel advice to Uk citizens) doesn't!
