Thanks. I'm thinking the safest thing is to cancel my booking.

We are also due to fly to Madeira Monday from the UK, East Midlands airport. We are both 70 and younger family members are adamant we should not go. Very disappointed but must be sensible.

As a 70+ person, I think I would feel more isolated from the virus by being in Madeira than by remaining in the UK where the number of cases is predicted to spiral.

There is as yet no quarantine requirement for new arrivals in Madeira, just a form to complete on the aircraft and temperature taken on arrival.

The normal body temperature is 38C (roughly 98.5F) - it is not clear from what I have read (unless I am missing something) what temperature the authorities would consider unacceptable .

We fly out Good Friday. Wondering what are chances of it going ahead?

In answer to post #5, my home Boots thermometer says:

"Normal adult body temperature is 37C or 98.6F but this can vary from person to person.

"You must seek medical advice if your temperature goes over 39C or 102F or if it remains above normal for more than 5 days."

So I would think that's the rule being followed.

Well we've cancelled. Reason is if they start screening and find cases of CV it's possible they could stop flights and we could be stuck on the island or quarantined in the hotel 14 days. Given the rapid change and development of the situation it's not worth the risk.

Phil: You obviously must do what you think is right for you but, to me, linking the finding of cases of CV during screening at Funchal airport to a possible stopping of flights is a leap too far.
