House boat in alkmaar

We have rented a houseboat in Alkmaar for 3 nights in mid October. Looking to rest before we tour Amsterdam. We love biking so where is best area for two adult woman

To visit. Also other towns of interest to go to whole in Alkmaar. We were looking for the small town charm. We have no car so public transportation it is or bicycle.

If you mean Alkmaar, all over town really except for the streets where it's walking only. Familiarize yourself with the signs so you can recognize them.

Hi ddavis1950,

There are quite a few around the city of Alkmaar. In October you might still have luck with the weather so rent a bike (e.g. at the train station) and follow one of the cycle routes. All routes in the Netherlands are marked with numbers so pick you places, download an app such as the one from route.nl and off you go.

I suggest to spend a day at the coast, the towns of Schoorl and Bergen are around 45 minutes by bike and the forests surrounding them are amazing. And perhaps you would want to spend a day in the lowlands south-east of town. Try Graft and de Rijp.

Alkmaar itself is a fairly small but fun town and the old city can be seen best by foot. Another great option is to rent a small boat, bring some food and spend half a day cruising the beautiful canals. But I am not sure if they are still open in October.

sandervd - Welcome to the Forum!!!!!!!

Please note though that you are necroposting - answering questions from a few months ago.

While there are not as many questions about Alkmaar as others cities, they do come up on a regular basis and having someone around with direct/current knowledge will prove helpful.

The OP still hasn't gone on their trip though, in October. It seems reasonable to me that someone who lives in the town in question can answer a still relevant post from barely 2 months ago.
