Any input is appreciated. What about options for insurance. We will be staying in Cagliari are for the week and doing day trips from there. Any suggestions. We like history and scenery.
Natasha F, read the reviews! There are bad rental companies out there and there are good ones. Read the reviews on these forums and read the responses. Some rental companies do a really thorough inspection when you return the car, including tires and rims and don't account for things such as "normal wear and tear" (what ever that is). If you don't check them before you take the car and notate any damage you could be charged for damage at the end of the rental.
No matter which company you use be sure to buy the most insurance you can, including tires and wheels. Check the car thoroughly when you get in and notate ALL damage, no matter how small. Take photos of the damage and of the entire car. Walk around the car with the attendant when you return it and have them sign off on the car stating NO NEW DAMAGES! This way if they try to claim any new damage you have proof it wasn't there when you turned in the car.
