Small Towns/Cities to Visit?

We will be visiting Italy in early July and spending a few days in Modena. In addition to the Ferrari museums and balsamic/parmesan/Lambrusco tours we've scheduled, I am looking for recommendations of small cities/towns we should visit in the region. Sassuolo? Carpi? Reggio Emilia? These would be half day trips from Modena and ultimately, I would like to visit smaller towns/cities that have a few shops and a restaurant. Thank you!

In Modena province I can suggest Carpi and Vignola for sure. Sassuolo is very industrial, but the Duke Palace is very interesting. Formigine and Spilamberto are other two small towns nice to be visited. Smaller but very nice are even Castelvetro, Finale Emilia and Fiumalbo.

Of the lisisted above only Carpi and Sassuolo are reacheable by train, the other can be reached by bus, but I greatly reccomend do the tours by car.
