Galway and Aran Island

We will be stopping for a night in Galway enroute to Killarney. We will be there early in the morning and can spend the day and one night there. We would like to take a trip to the Aran Islands during the day. Does anyone have any advice on a hotel close to where the boats leave? And any ideas on times of day to cross?

Thank you.

The boats leave from Rossaveal, which is about a 30 minute drive from Galway. You won't see much of Galway if you elect to stay out there...not sure what accommodations are out there anyway. Your best bet is to take the bus from Galway which goes directly to the ferry dock.

Here is the website for the Aran Island ferry: http://www.aranislandferries.com/

The shuttle bus to the Ferry departs from Eyre Square, so if you plan to park and then go to the Ferry, you would want a nearby hotel and to be mindful of the times.

An alternative would be to park at the Ferry Port, take the trip and then drive into Galway for the night.

Fly to the island, instead of taking the Ferry: http://www.aerarannislands.ie/

The bus from Galway leaves from Queen St not Eyre Square, you'll need to be in Galway by then otherwise the only option is the flight, which doesnt always operate.

I stand corrected. The Shuttle leaves from Queens Street, BUT you must first check in -- at the office on Eyre Square or Foster Street:
