Very excited to be visiting Oyster Pond in early June. Should I pre-arrange for car rental prior to arrival or wait and rent at the airport upon arrival? Thanks for any hints or tips.🌞🌴🌊
I suggest renting a car in advance of arrival for the best rates and selections. Just bring your confirmation with you and you are good to go.
You should always book before arriving to get the deals on the rates in advance. I recommend booking with Dollar/Thrifty Car Rental. They actually have a location in Oyster Pond which will be very convenient for you.
I got my car from Avis about 2 days before arriving - I had no problem getting my car- they pick you up at the airport and take you the 2 min drive to the office ..very easy drop off as well
Bobcat has a very good list. Note - eveyone has their favorites. Get quotes from those recommended. Locals give very good service. June is low season so you should get competitive pricing.
We have been staying in Oyster Pond, French side, for years. 4 - 6 weeks per stay.
I prefer to rent from an agency close to the airport or one that will deliver/pick-up right at the airport. Otherwise you may have issues getting to the location and then back at departure time. A taxi from airport to OP would probably run in the range of $25+ per trip.
Familiarize yourself with online maps for the drive as well as location of grocers, restaurants, etc. There are better ways to get to OP than driving thru Phillipsburg.
The coastal drive from French OP to Orleans is very scenic but suggest you do not take this route after dark if enroute to/from Orient Beach, Grand Case, etc. Lots of good restaurants in immediate OP area, do check out Au Pain de Espices grocer at NE corner of the French residential area (not far from Captain Olivers).
Have a great trip.
A plus for Dollar/Thrifty, we have been using them for over 20+ years and never had a glitch. Book early and receive the best rates.
Plus one for Leisure Car Rental. We were scheduled to arrive in St Maarten last Sunday, but the plane could not land because of bad weather. We were diverted to San Juan, and actually arrived in St. Maarten the next morning at 7:30am. I was really surprised, and relieved to see the Leisure rep. outside the Airport waiting for me!!! So, yes, I can certainly recommend them. I booked on their website http://www.leisurecarrentalsxm.com
I second Ckdkn for the biggest part.
Adding: depending on whether price is important i would vow for locals that are not near the airport.
for 1 helping the real locals instead of big entrepeneurs
2nd better personal service. I always send my friends to: Angela from
free deliverg and pick up service also at airport if preferred
