Help on where to stay

Hi all! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

My family, which includes myself, spouse, and 2 young adult children (ages 26 and 29) are planning a trip to Montreal the 1st weekend in September (looking at Sept. 4th - Sept. 9th), although we are free any time in September if someone suggests a better weekend to go :)

My husband and I like to stay at VRBOs, but looking through posts on here, it looks like they are mostly illegal in Canada? He is a chef and we love to shop the local markets and utilize the kitchens that VRBOs offer in addition to the additional space for communing together. Is this not going to be a viable option for us in Montreal? I have gone to the bonjourquebec website, since that is where the forums say to go for legal rentals, but I don't see anything on there that fits what I want. Any help or advice? Thank you!

STR's are not illegal everywhere in Canada. However they are highly regulated and banned in some areas of Montreal.

Have a look at the Sonder properties. They are legal.

You could also look at suite hotels. One in particular - Square Phillips - has full kitchen facilities in all their suites.

Thank you. I have never heard of sonder.com. Have you stayed at any of their properties?

Thanks!

Le St-Sulpice in Old Montreal also offers a kitchenette.

As for Sonder I checked a few reviews, they seem quite nice. The only issue seems to be with their cancellation policy however a lot of hotel are quite rigid with their cancellation policy as well. If you don't plan on cancelling, Sonder seems to be a very good, and legal, choice.

This thread has comments from someone who stayed in one of their properties.

This article from a popular Toronto blog site, while discussing their Toronto properties, provides some background information on their business model.
