Entry as of oct 2021

Hi we are travelling shortly and have been told that no Covid vaccines are required to enter Cancun and that we just need to complete an FMM and immigration form along with a declaration form is this correct? No PCR test required prior to entry either.

Any advice gratefully appreciated

Susan B,

The FMM form *IS* the Immigration form; it is also known as the tourist permit as well. This form is usually handed out about a hour prior to arrival and should be completed using a blue or black ink pen (make sure to have 1 in your carryon). DO NOT lose the bottom portion of the FMM form returned to you by the Immigration Agent! You must carry this on your person and present this along with your passport when asked by INM Immigration Authorities, who are stepping up random immigration checks everywhere!

As an added precaution against losing or misplacing the bottom portion of the FMM form returned to you by the Immigration Agent, might I suggest that you place a large paperclip inside the rear cover of your passport. Then when the Immigration Agent returns the bottom portion to you, simply slip the bottom portion under the paperclip inside the rear cover of your passport for safe keeping!

Terminal 4, and reportedly 3 now also, no longer require the Customs declaration form upon arrival as luggage is scanned prior to being placed onto the luggage claim carousels. However be aware that one is still subject to random (cursory) hand checks. Hope this helps, safe travels.

¡Diviértanse!

For entering Mexico...

In addition to having a valid passport, all visitors to Mexico must complete an FMM tourist/immigration card, and maybe a Customs form (depends on which airport you arrive at -- see Note below).

A Covid test is not required to enter Mexico, proof of vaccination is not required, and there's no mandatory quarantine after arrival. The airline might say a health questionnaire is required, but it isn't being collected upon arrival at Cancun airport (the questionnaire is required for departure from Mexico).

The FMM immigration form is usually handed out on the plane an hour or so before landing. Carry a pen so you can complete them while on the plane. You might also get a Customs forms, but you don't need that if landing at Cancun.

Many forum members have reported that SOME flights with SOME airlines have not had the forms available or not had enough forms for all passengers. If you don't get a form on the plane, forms are available inside the airport after landing.

Another option is completing the forms on-line, printing them at home and bringing them with you. If you want to complete the FMM immigration form on-line, here's the official link...

https://www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/en/solicitud.html

One form per traveller. It can be completed online within THIRTY (30) days of your arrival date in Mexico, and your passport must be valid for at least 180 days after your arrival date in Mexico (this requirement is for the on-line form only). After completing it, print it and bring it with you. Perforate or make a hard crease in the paper so the Immigration officer can tear it easily. There is no fee to get or complete the form online.

Note: Some visitors have reported that the form has not been accepted unless the page has both sides of the form printed on the same page (front & back).

Upon arrival in Mexico, when you go through Immigration, the Immigration officer returns half of the FMM tourist card to you. Keep it with your passport and DON'T LOSE IT because it must be handed in upon departure from Mexico. If you lose it, you'll have to pay.

NOTE: The Customs form is not required if arriving at Cancun Airport Terminals 3 & 4.

You should also be aware of the duty-free limits if you bring cigarettes or alcohol to Mexico. Here's what the Customs form states:

Quote

What you may introduce to Mexico without declaring...

Passengers +18 years old, a maximum of 10 packs of cigarettes, 25 cigars or 200 grams of tobacco; Up to three liters of alcoholic beverages and six liters of wine.

To return to the U.K. you will need evidence of your vaccinations otherwise you will be subjected to compulsory quarantine at your cost,

In the preceding 48 hours before your departure home you will need to complete online a U.K. passenger locator form which includes details of your jabs etc.

If you haven’t been double vaccinated I strongly suggest that you don’t travel. I am in Cancun at the moment and have researched the details thoroughly.
