We just returned from 2 weeks and we had a run in with a officer

Well to make a long story short we followed 2 other cars on a one way street going the wrong way

I pulled over and began to turn around as soon as I realized we all were going wrong way, I turned around and started going rite way when officer in white outfit flagged me down, he walked up to our van and asked me if I knew I was going wrong way, I said yes that's why I turned around and other cars kept going

He said this is a very serious traffic infraction with a large fine and asked for my license

I gave license to him and said I'm very sorry I just followed others but understand what I did was a infraction and understand if I get a citation

He started asking if van was a rental, how long we are in town for, and saying very serious infraction

I asked him where the place was to pay the infraction and he began to describe where I needed to go

I told him I have read about my license will be taken to police station until I pay, I will go next morning to pay, he became very hesitant and walked away for a minute and came back and asked me to step out of the van and look at one way sign

As we walked over to the sign he again said very serious infraction

I said I agree and understand why I'm getting this ticket and will pay it first thing in morning

He asked are you sure you know where to go pay it, I said I will take a cab to make sure I'm make it to the rite place

After about 30 minutes of this back and forth talking he realized I was not going to ask him if there another way to take care of this and he seamed frustrated I did not ask him that

He finally gave me license back and said very serious infraction next time

The whole time my wife, mother in law who were in the car said they could not believe how obvious it was he kept waiting for you to ask about other ways to pay fine

Thanks trip advisor group for advice on just keep asking for ticket

Had the exact same experience. My fault - no doubt. Turns out the officer's boss was headed to the US and needed US currency at a good exchange rate. Followed us back to the house - we changed pesos to dollars at a good rate and "Que Milagro!" the "infraction" went away. Not a "mordida" just a little favor in exchange for one.

I refuse to pay a "mordita"- ALWAYS ask for the ticket is my best advice. In 13 years of driving here, I have been pulled over twice- first time, no ticket just a stern warning (totally my fault! I was following my husband who went through an "orange" light) Second time was because the transito could not see I had my seat belt on... he looked and waved me off. Paying a ticket can be a pain but why be a participant in corruption?

I have a friend who this happened to in PV several years ago. I think he paid the officer, but I've since set him straight lol.
