Hi.
We will be holidaying in Playa de Santiago in second half of December. Is it feasible to travel to Valle Gran Rey and back for a day via the ferry (costwise and timewise?) Likewise San Sebastian?
We will not be hiring a car.
When I was there last January, Fred Olsen cancelled the boat to Valle Gran Rey.- as far as I know, it hasn't been reinstated.
Thanks, JackNicklaus.
We are planning to visit La Gomera in February 2013, and would be grateful if anyone could post an update on whether the onward ferry service from San Sebastian to Valle Gran Rey has been re-instated?
Thanks in advance.
We stayed on La Gomera over Christmas (at Hotel Jardin Tecina, Playa Santiago) and had a very good holiday.
The ferry from San Sebastian to Valle Gran Rey via Playa Santiago is no longer running. We were told this was due to the recession, so presumably there weren't enough passengers.
Thank you for the information.
In October 14 there was no ferry but there are hopes for it to be reinstated. Tina excursions do a water taxi a couple of times a week, allowing you a few hours in Valle Gran Rey. It is quicker than by road and gives you a fantastic opportunity to look a some of the geology of the island - as well as a bit of wind in your hair and sunshine!
Is the ferry between Playa Santiago and Vale Gran Rey nowworking
What is the best way to visit for a day, hopefully the cheapest too!
Thanks for any suggestions
See above for the Tina excursion but probably hiring a car for the day will be about the same price as two traveling and give you more flexibility. It is a much longer journey time but plenty else to see on the way

Curbelo announces that in summer it will begin to operate the maritime line interior gomera
It called on the Canary Islands Government today to set up the Port of Vueltas to respond to commercial and tourist traffic
Casimiro Curbelo
"The vessel that will make the connections of the interior maritime line of La Gomera will arrive in June or July", informs the leader of Socialist Group Gomera (ASG), Casimiro Curbelo, who announced the recovery of the communications that unite by sea the towns of the South of La Gomera from next summer, and demanded the development of island ports, especially Valle Gran Rey.
Casimiro Curbelo raised in Parliament today that the Canary Islands Government must guarantee the operation of the Port de Vueltas which, he explained, does not yet have all the services necessary to provide a quality service to residents who use maritime transport or tourists Which can be reached, as the infrastructure is included in regional cruise programming.
The highest representative of ASG stressed that the port of Valle Gran Rey is a strategic facility for the municipality and for the island, and detailed that, although the general work was concluded years ago, it was not until the second half of 2015 when Awarded the construction of a passenger terminal.
"This building is finished, but not operational, because it does not have the furniture or the services of water, electricity and other endowments," he said after recalling that La Gomera received last year 700,000 tourists and recorded 910,000 overnight stays. "In addition," he added, "we must bear in mind that we are talking about a municipality that has 3,000 tourist accommodation places and the second municipality of the island in terms of population numbers."
"We have to offer the best possible comfort to those who use this infrastructure, the arrival of travelers," he said and thanked the commitment made by the new Minister of Public Works and Transport, who commented on the multi-annual investment plan that the regional executive planned until 2020 .
He pointed out that this year plans to invest 310,000 euros, which includes completing the endowments of the terminal; Said that the Government's objective is to tender the action as soon as possible, and stressed that in the Government they are aware of the importance of this port for the economic activity of the municipality and the island.
