Best friendly (cheaper) resort on the Islands?

Hi, my friend, my little 3 year old and I want to holiday in Fiji for the first time at end of Jan for a couple of weeks (maybe 10 nights on the Islands). We looked at Octopus, then Blue Lagoon, now have found the forum and wondered if there any better suggestions for us. I'm tending towards Blue Lagoon cause I like not having an unfenced pool on the grounds for my adventurous 3 year old to fall into. I'd also really like him to be able to play with local kids if this at all possible. We may also need our own bathroom, but I can be swayed on this. No desire for a formal kids club, but I will take advantage of babysitting so that I can go off and snorkel. Not sure what else I need, I guess nothing really.

Thank you so much for your help

You have just described Botaira, Fijian owned and managed with amazing staff. Babysitting not a problem, no pool but lovely lagoon that is safe and shallow for a couple of meters off the sand. Fijian Manager has two young children aged 5 and 3 who love playing with other children. The caring staff like all Fijians love children.

Agree - Botaira would be perfect for you and your little one.

It was lovely seeing the children playing on the beach and in the gardens ~

Thank you Hooked On and BaySydney.

I've been reading the reviews of Botaira and they seem more mixed than reviews for Blue Lagoon. I tried to focus on the more recent ones. My main concern coming out of the criticisms is that the place may be too quiet, run down, and lacking in 'vitality' (as one reviewer put it). However, I know different travellers have different wants. We would like a place where we can socialise with a few others, and there be a bit of activity. One reviewer said that they were the only two guests in the whole place last January! We are not a romantic couple and are not looking for privacy. Are you able to give me any reassurance about Botaira on this front?

Again, thank you so much.

Would you consider two resorts? We stayed at both Botaira Resort and Blue Lagoon in October (3 nights at each). The two resorts do offer different things - we LOVED Botaira. Yes it was quieter at the time - 8 guests in total but the staff were absolutely fantastic and our 7 and 8 year olds loved it. We found Blue Lagoon to be very well presented and an efficiently run resort and we really enjoyed our time there but to be honest we preferred Botaira - it was just more our style.
