Ternelles Walk
Save

Hi there,

We are doing the Ternelles Valley walk next Tuesday (we have a permit)

I was just wondering if we need any directions for the walk or if it's fairly self explanatory?

I can't seem to find much online.

Thanks in advance!

It's straightforward really - stay right when the track forks and then stay on it all the way. You can't walk up to the castle due to the protected vultures. Don't forget extra I.D, plenty of water and a hat - no tree cover for the last third and the hill to the beach seems to grow on way back!

I did it last year. Forgot extra I.D so had to go back to digs to get it which delayed me by an hour. Walked down to the sea, took 3 steps and stood on a sea anemone! The hour delay meant I walked up the hill at hottest part of the day...on the hottest day...with a foot full of spines. I swore at every rock, plant and bird I saw on the way up!!! So nice to sink my head/feet in the stream when I found it!

It's a nice walk - I didn't see another person for 6 hours (I was hoping to be invited for dinner by a member of the Marche family...I ended up with a cheese sarnie in the company of bewildered sheep!). It has a real bucolic feel - just the wind and cattle bells. Great for wildlife (Pine Martens galore!). Just past the gatehouse there's an offshoot path going up to the font which you may like to check out? Just be aware that the beach is all rocks/pebbles so not really an all-day sunbathing spot.

Have a good one :-)

A perfect time of year to do it - and it is basically a question of following the most obvious track. It is a fair distance so as the others have said take water and lunch - also binoculars and a camera.

There have once again been recent problems, with the police having to attend to guarantee permit holders access to the walk.

Taff - When you say "extra ID", can you post what ID you need to take in order to do the walk?

How often do you hear about stories where the police defend access?!

It's a beautiful place, it would be a shame to have it ruined by unrestricted access. That said, if it's against Spanish law then folks have the right to challenge it.

The main point about ID is that it has to match the authorisation document - so bring your passport.

I think I had to enter passport details to get the permit? It wasn't too official at the gate back then but it may be at the moment.

Hi anyone, Planning a return trip to the lovely Ternelles walk at the end of the month. Does anyone know if it is possible to get up to the castle, last couple of times (in summer) it has been blocked off ?

Cheers,

JCH
