Stay and hike Routerburn around New Years

Would you recommend just one night to stay in Glenorchy if we just want to hike one day to see the beauty. Or should we just drive up from Qtown or Te Anau? thank you

In my opinion the day walks from the divide ( Te Anau end ) would give you more spectacular scenery especially if you include the summit walk. If time allows go down the hollyford road and do the Lake Marion walk.
