I visited this restaurant with overseas guests today, and they and I were so impressed. The service was exemplary and the food was truly delicious. The view out over the vines to the sea was gorgeous on a blue sky day, and the staff did everything to make sure we enjoyed our day. Under the guidance of their new chef, the kitchen produced meals that we couldn’t fault. I left feeling very grateful that we have such wonderful talent in this country of ours. Well done Elephant Hill - you made me proud!

This was a wonderful night! The food was exceptional, from entree to desserts. The wine was delicious, the service amazing. We had a perfect table overlooking the vineyards and so were able to watch the Pukeko and rabbits outside as we enjoyed the surroundings. It was my birthday and although we had not told them that we were celebrating someone within the service team twigged to this and I was given a small plate of delicious chocolate etc with “Happy Birthday” etched onto it, in chocolate. Such a lovely gesture! We have been before and always had a fabulous time, the food is always sensational, presentation exquisite! Thank you again Elephant Hill.

Every year we come to Elephant Hill for wine tasting and dining. Every year is better than the previous. Fredrika and Samir made the evening memorable and just great. Every dish has a selected wine and Fredrika was more than willing to offer us a taste before selecting. My husband had the succulent oysters and I had the beet root salad for starters, fresh snapper and perfectly prepared tenderloin for mains. So much creativity in the presentation of food combined with a gorgeous setting makes Elephant Hill one of the loviest wineries in the world. Extra special last nite with the manager, Norbert adding special touches to our evening. A chat about wines, opera, travel and a special memory💞, GRAZIE MILLE!

We always rate Elephant Hill for their food but the service was terrible on our last trip... at a restaurant of this calibre you expect they will clear the entree plates before the mains arrive which didn’t happen. You also don’t expect them to forgot you... we sat outside and were the last ones out there, they shut the doors to the deck and actually never came back even though we were waiting to order desert. The whole place looked deserted inside. We eventually got up and left because no one was around. Sure enough someone appeared to take our money just in time. I wrote them feedback and they never responded, seems we still don’t exist.

First off I need to say that we had no issue with the service. It was extremely friendly and very efficient. However there is a new form of dining now wth options of 3, 4 or 5 courses with optional matching wines. Starting at $75 per person for 3 courses (excluding wine) Not much choice 3 starter type dishes, 2 mains, a cheese and dessert plate and thats the whole menu, We opted for the 3 courses and opted for only one wine match with main. The dishes were quite small, good.... but just missed the mark for the price. But the real kicker was when we went to pay to find that the wine matches for A GLASS were $24 and $30 per glass ...REALLY !!! We think these are outrages prices and we left feeling disappointed and absolutely gutted. We had always wanted to go to Elephant Hill. Fabulous setting but sadly I doubt that we will return.

Visited 3 times while on holiday in Hawkes Bay late Dec / early Jan. Beautiful looking place and interested in wine tasting / purchases. Unfortunately, the staffing levels and experience meant that each time, we walked away without an opportunity to try the wine or food. Every other vineyard / eatery in the region was far more customer focussed, therefore enabling us enjoy their offerings and spend money. Based on the majestic state of the facility and also local verbal reviews it may be a temporary issue with recent changes in staff. Will likely return again later this year and hope for a much better experience.

Having visited Elephant Hill several times over the years, we were absolutely appalled by our recent visit. Off the very limited menu (4 main options, 2 of which were vegetarian) 5 of us ordered Steak. While beautifully presented the steak was frankly inedible, the toughest, chewiest taste we have ever experienced. Only to be accompanied by bubbles, "we have Daniel LeBrun" mentioned the waitress "cool" "No 1?"she questioned, "sure", "reserve?" " why not", imagine our surprise when the cost of the 3 bottles we consumed were $230 a bottle and no-one had mentioned the price to us.....Go to Craggy Range, eat their delicious food, enjoy their wonderful service and drink Tattinger! Way better option. Oh, we have written a letter to Elephant Hill directly before this review, to once again be faced with a dreadful response. What a waste of a gorgeous afternoon in Hawkes Bay.

Lunch - Told no oysters (they had not arrived) and then promptly they delivered oysters to every other table. And whoever thought of putting sweet custard as a sauce with a steak. Do not be afraid to change the ingredients on a dish to make it edible. Most were not. Bad, bad, service

This winery is set in beautiful location with vines all around and the tasting room right next door. The menu is modern New Zealand, with fresh local and regional selection to choose from. We had delicious oysters to start, followed by the wagu beef and pork. All finished off with some of the local rose and Syrah (you have to try this red!) and cheese, don’t forget the cheese! A great day out, with great wine and food. A great way to spend the day.

This is one of the best vineyard restaurants I’ve been to for a long time. The food is pricey but well worth it and the views are stunning. You won’t be disappointed - we had two courses each (2 people) with wine for $200. Make sure you book well in advance.

On a day excursion from Manawatu we found ourselves near Elephant Hill at lunch time. We stopped in and although fully booked, made room for four. This was good for them and excellent for us. Great environs. Superb setting near the ocean. While limited Menu choices, the quality was fabulous. They catered to my wife's dietary needs with no fuss or bother which is always appreciated. Great food, excellent wine, fantastic service and unforgettable experience. Well done Elephant Hill!

We had Christmas Eve dinner here. The 5 course with matching wines option was delicious. We had fresh bread and oysters as a welcome treat. We had 3 entrees, all of them beautifully cooked and served. We had the beef for main, cooked to perfection and the Black Forest dessert was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had! Wines were beautiful and the waitresses were super nice and friendly. We got a cute box of Swiss cookies made by the chef. Great views and nice atmosphere. Even better if you are camping... the Clifton rd reserve (2 nights free camping for self-contained vehicles) is across the road, so you can park you can there and walk 100mts to the winery:)

This place was recommended, however we left there today with a sour taste in our mouth. $304 for entree sized lunch and a wine tasting. Bloody outrageous to say the least. I had the ceviche and asked for a larger portion, it cost $50 for an entree size meal at best. Don't get me started on the other 3 meals! To be honest, if I was truly honest, when they bought our meals to the table, we should have stood up and walked away. To add insult to injury, we did a wine tasting, and charged us for it despite purchasing a bottle of wine with our meal. Their excuse, "the restaurant is seperate from the winery". Just a joke. Ohh, they blamed covid for their portion size! Should be the complete opposite, they should be offering outstanding value for money in order to get more bums on the seats!

Visited last night with trepidation after reading previous reviews but had a sublime 5 course meal which had more than enough food for us all. Lovely goats milk cheese ravioli as an oyster substitute and each subsequent course was innovative, flavoursome and beautifully presented, with impeccable service. Very knowledgeable sommelier who was able to recommend some lovely aged premium wines which weren’t on the list. All wines served in Riedel glassware. Highly recommended.

We have been going to Elephant Hill for over 6 years now every time we are on holiday in the area and it has always been the highlight of the holiday. But we went for lunch and right from the start the experience was not good they didn’t have any oysters or fish as it had not arrived but had no alternative to offer. All the meals were not seasoned properly the feta was very salty and not balanced by the accompanying sweetness of the figs and the other starters were under seasoned. The mushroom ravioli was plain weird very dry with no sauce or melted butter that usually goes with this dish and curling up at the edges due it being dry. To be fair when we complained this was taken off the bill. We didn’t risk dessert the wine as always was great so in future we will just go for a wine tasting and not a meal.
