We spent August 2023 in the welcoming and evocative restaurant of the Osteria dell'Angelo in San Giovanni Valdarno in the company of many friends at a cheerful and festive table. The management of the restaurant offered us a fixed menu consisting of mixed starters including: vegetable couscous, mixed crostini, crunchy panzanella, homemade vegetables in oil and pickle... a delight! First course with delicate Sardinian gnocchi, second course of mixed roast with tender and tasty baked potatoes, superlative homemade dessert, special house wines. All the dishes were excellent and plentiful and above all the prices were fair! The whole evening was surrounded by a pleasant and festive atmosphere, they entertained us with excellent music and songs sung live. In short, a truly memorable mid-August holiday (and the photo that I attach with great pleasure can truly attest to this!) Thank you Gianni and Tony for the friendliness, hospitality and dedication you put into your work, a guarantee and a feather in the cap for San Giovanni Valdarno! See you soon

My husband and I have dined her for many years. It is a hidden gem, off the beaten path, where one can dine with the locals in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Robust pasta and superb filets shine on the daily menu and the Sardinian chef, with decades of experience, often comes up with amazing specials. Don't miss the crostini and bruschette, and let the staff recommend their inexpensive, but pleasant wines. The names of the pastas may be familiar, but here they are exceptional. A family run, cozy establishment where excellent quality, generous portions and reasonable prices add up to a top choice in all of the Valdarno region. It is literally a 2 minute walk to the train station, and has piazza seating in the warmer months.

We stopped for a short visit to the Valdarno and finding this little restaurant in a quiet street that leads to the main square of San Giovanni we stopped for an outdoor lunch. We ate very well, especially the tagliatelle. The menu includes typical local dishes and also some originality. Very kind and helpful staff, also for information. Honest prices. If we are in the area we will return.

Our experience here is comical! Let's start by saying that we were near this restaurant, returning home, in Piedmont. Attracted by the great reviews we decide to stop and try. We go in around 1.20pm on a Sunday and they let us in. The place is nice and welcoming! They bring us bread, water and a menu. We choose and after about 20 minutes we order: a tagliatella with meat sauce (for a 3-year-old girl), a spaghetti pecorino and bacon and a fillet with green pepper with a side of mixed salad. At 2.05 pm, when all the tables around us (which arrived well after us) had been served, we ask to be able to speed up even just the baby's plate. They reply that “we are almost there”. After a while he returns to the waiter telling us that “the fillet is finished”. Ah. So to try to speed up, I also order a spaghetti with pecorino cheese and cheek like my partner, to facilitate everything. Around 2.20pm they bring us a plate with 8 chips saying “for the baby” (so I assume they are offered?!) But 15 minutes ago we were almost there? Vabbè! Anyway around 2.25pm I see between the kitchen door, the cook opening a packet of spaghetti! At about 2.30 pm the tagliatelle and then also our spaghetti arrive. All good and tasty I must say! Let's finish lunch and head to the register. The bill is acceptable, 41€ in total, too bad that it also includes the mixed salad that we have never eaten (but maybe it was the chips?!). I realize it only outside the restaurant and in a hurry I don't go back! We suggest you start treating “local” customers and “overt tourists” alike! Thank you.

Osteria dell'angelo: cozy atmosphere, great food, impeccable service at a more than fair price. Ideal place for every occasion. Whether it is a romantic dinner, a birthday with friends or a business lunch you will always leave with the intention of returning.

In San Giovanni Valdarno for a cultural event, they took me to this lovely Osteria. Characteristic environment, professional and very friendly service. The only embarrassment is the choice between generous first courses and main courses with first-class meats. Perfect combination of Tuscan cuisine with Sardinian incursions (the delicious pig). Few but excellent desserts. Inviting price-quality ratio.

In the cosiest and most pictoresque corner, right behind the square, there’s this jem: the best most genuine food, great atmosphere, creamy crunchy rosted potatoes not to be missed, a pasta with guanciale to die for, all at a correct price. And a menu all to be tried. Would you really going to miss it? Home.

We made a stop returning from Sicily to Milan. They are about 3 km from the tollbooth and worth the stop. Great service, excellent food and wine, dessert made by them and lots of sympathy. If we happen to be in the area again, we will be back, for sure.

Tuscan Osteria par excellence. Quality, variety of the menu, friendliness and maximum attention to service. Excellent prices. We stayed two nights in a row and if it hadn't been busy we would have returned on the third. Compliments to the chef and everyone.

Cosy, nice place with flexible, informal service, for a good and traditional Italian dinner out with friends or family; the new chef, Gianni, cooks tasty center-Italy style pasta dishes, and more is available from the menu, like meat and vegetables. They also do gluten-free and typical Italian starters: I got some great GF tagliatelle all'aglione, followed by the cheese selection with GF bread and cold GF beer! I will come back with my local friends soon :)

Our first dinner in san Giovanni Valdarno, although this city is not my favourite one, this little restaurant is recommended! Easy but nice tasting food. So funny to see the owner was extremely happy when my daughter finished her plate completely :-)

Very yummy pasta with Tuscan sauce. Pork fillet is also great. We saw a lot of locals ordering the spaghetti with mussel sauce - looks delicious - we should have ordered that as well. My husband forgot his bag when we left the restaurant. The waitress ran out to track us down in a square nearby. Cannot imagine the hassle we would have to go through if he lost his bag. Thank you very much!
