About
Motherland Spice is a family run restaurant started in 2012. Since opening we have been highly successful because of our unique, authentic Indian & Nepalese cuisine. Motherland Spice has brought expert chefs from India & Nepal to bring the real taste of authentic cuisne in Britain. We are famous in Scotland for our 'Chicken Tikka Baja' and 'Lamb Tawa' dishes and are proud to be the only restaurant in Scotland to serve these two dishes. We also specialise in our South-Indian cuisine. At Motherland Spice we like to think of our food as a journey, one during which we can take you places which will excite, places you might not have thought of going, but ones you will enjoy once you get there. Our menu takes you on a trip from the ultra-cool slopes of the Everest to the fiery plains of Madras, from the lush valleys of Swat to the bountiful Indian Ocean, with more than several stops along the way.

We arrived on a cold wet September day,but the day soon changed with the warm welcome we received from the wonderful staff. We opted to choose from the main menu as it was so well priced and great value for money. When the starters came they were beautifully presented with great size potions and wonderful aromas and flavours. I chose the chicken tikka main and having worked in the restaurant industry. This was by far the best I have ever tasted. This place is 10 out of 10 in every way and it doesn't surprise me that they were rated as top five best Indian restaurant in Scotland from the Hearld. Well done and keep up the great work This is truly ayrshires hidden gem. Can't wait to go back.

I went to Motherland Spice with two of my friends who I regularly dine with. We were made very welcome. The owner, "Bobski", is a bit of a character with his hearty handshake, big smile and friendly chat. I went for the haggis pakora to start. A tasty starter, i was also impressed by my friends' choices, a prawn poori and a chicken poori. So much so that I ordered a chicken poori as well. Greedy I know but I couldn't resist! For my main course I chose the lamb off the bone in "an authentic Nepalese sauce". The lamb was particularly succulent, easily peeling off the bone. My friends also enjoyed their main courses and we shared a garlic naan and a portion of chips. Needless to say we didn't have room for dessert! If you are looking for a delicious, affordable Indian with a friendly atmosphere then Motherland Spice is the place for you

Visited here 25th of January walking in there's a nice atmosphere greated by the owner who was very attentive bright and happy and looks happy to be there. We sat down and was happy to talk about the menu with us and ordered I had the chef's special and my friend had the lamb mitho piro both of which were amazing the flavours and consistency was spot on the the right amount of heat I tried my friends curry and was amazing also. We also had the garlic naan each with again amazing fresh and flavoursome, the poppadoms and spiced onions were perfect also just melts in your mouth. Overall I can't fault this place at all between the staff and the food it was perfect and will be re visited very soon! The only negative is that it's in saltcoats and wish it was closer. Hope this business thrives for many years to come

Staying in Largs for a few days on holiday and found this amazing Indian on the Internet. The restaurant is in Saltcoats which is about half an hour away from Largs. Contacted through Facebook and they agreed to deliver to Largs so ordered. Was delivered within an hour and it was absolutely amazing. Been a while since we had a really nice curry back home and this didn't disappoint. Ordered the chicken achari and the chicken was tender with a thick flavoursome hot and spicy sauce and the keema with peas. Absolutely delicious with decent sized portions which was cooked home style, leaving us with enough leftover for another meal. Chapatis are good size and the spicy onion chutney is completely homemade. Can't recommend enough and we would definitely return when in the area.

Came in for some lunch with my wife and we had the business lunch you can add on ANY other main dishes for an extra £1 which we both did we had the chicken jalfrezi & the chicken tikka masala as well as a cheese Nan bread. For starters we had chicken pakora and dessert was ice cream and a coffee! Everything was absolutely delicious and the flavours and spices were outstanding and outstanding value for money!! It was extremely busy for lunchtime so I’d highly recommend booking in advance which I did the place was practically full. The decor is clean and modern and the staff can’t do enough to help Daniel especially was wonderful and extremely helpful! Will most definitely be back very soon to try some more dishes! Thanks again.

We were on holidays at Sandylands, had a chance to try some delicious food. Really nice & welcome by host, took our orders & was very honest about the time it will take as restaurant was busy. Food was absolute tasty & delicious, good portions, value for money, which tempted me to leave a review.

Discovered this place during lockdown where we were able to collect takeaways. Food is amazing and quickly became our regular takeaway. When the new restaurant opened we booked for a special celebration with a larger table and were slightly disappointed with the service and the food, I have to say it was the first Saturday night of it opening so was very busy and I think possibly just taken on too much. Left it a while then ordered a takeaway for collection, again was slightly disappointed in the wait times on collection(all a bit manic). So again left it a while, however, today I preordered a delivery online...and WOW!! totally redeemed themselves😅 food is simply the best Indian food I've tasted, hence the reason I had to keep going back to try. Everything is just so fresh and tasty and just has the edge on other favourites of ours.

We keep coming here from Kilmarnock because the food every time is magnificent. Went last night and everything we ordered was a treat. Also got a takeaway on leaving and it was also excellent. Consistently brilliant food whether it be a meat feast or a veggie curry, cannot fault a single dish. Love eating here and looking forward to next visit. Ps service is also always first class as well

We got together as a family to celebrate two different birthday's. Some of us had the table buffet, others had individual dishes. It was a fantastic evening. The food was delicious and piping hot. We couldn't fault anything at all. Everyone was more than happy with our meals, the service and the surroundings. The restaurant was spotlessly clean, and the restaurant was extremely busy. The service is always second to none, very friendly, and one is always made to feel very welcome. We had a fantastic evening, and would just like to thank all the staff. We will all be back soon. Terrific food, terrific staff and terrific atmosphere.

Popped in on a Saturday lunch time for their £8.95 business lunch. There was a number of starters and mains to choose from. You also get rice or naan and coffee or ice cream for dessert. The food was very tasty indeed. The restaurant has been renovated and extended and looks much nicer. The service was very friendly and welcoming. We will be back!

Motherland Spice in Saltcoats is one of the best Restaurants our family has dined in. The food and service were perfect. Staff are very friendly and attentive, even though they were extremely busy. When we left the restaurant there was a queue waiting all the way down the street. A testament to how great the place is. Will definitely be back many more times.

So I like to think of myself as a curry connoisseur and live within the three towns area. Best Indian in the area hands down, I’ve tried them all. Anyone who says different needs their head checking. Keep up the good work guys, from a very loyal customer. (Regular take away). The lamb chops starter is my recommendation followed by a mahkni masala 👍🏻

I first of all have to say I’ve dined I’m at the restaurant and it’s one of the best! Because of how good it was I ordered a collection on Saturday 14th January 2023. Phone order confirmed for one main meal that included rice, a sauce and chicken tikka. I was told 45min wait for collection to be ready which was fine. I arrived and the restaurant was very busy which is good to see. I felt that my order had been overlooked as I had to wait another 30mins however the staff were very attentive and apologetic. I got my order and drove home 20mins to discover both the rice and chicken tikka hadn’t been put in my order. I called and again very apologetic they dispatched my missing chicken and rice which arrived about 45mins later. It was yet again very tasty although my chicken tikka had transformed itself during the journey to me to beef! (It’s all good as I like beef anyway!) Although this seems like a complaint it’s actually not, the food and customer service is second to none it’s just maybe a learning point. It’s great to be busy and mistakes happen I just felt that when things are so busy front of house, restaurant, kitchen maybe you should take the strain off everyone and not take collection orders till the kitchen brigade catch up. That said it’s still the best quality food in that genre I’ve ever had anywhere in the U.K.

A family-run restaurant with a “firm hand on the tiller” is hard to beat and the place endorses that belief. The Sharing Platter was a great starter with variety and well-cooked meat and veg to satisfy the most greedy of you 😉 Sweet Chilli Garlic Chicken and good rice and naan with a main course that tempted me to lick the plate - I desisted, on this occasion… Crackling friendly atmosphere with Mum, Dad and one of their offspring on the “floor” and working well. Excellent place with a high number of returning diners 👍
