Family owned seafood restaurant with a great view

Our hotel recommended Sitio do Forno as a place that actually prepared your food rather than just serving it. To get to Sitio do Forno we drove down a winding dark road wondering what we were getting into. We came a round a corner though and there it was. The place was rather quiet as it was mid-winter and a bit late. The owner welcomed us though and we ordered up dinner. This isn't a fine dining place, it's a family/ beach restaurant. Very casual, basic wine, but great seafood. You pick the freshly caught fish you want when you walk in and they prepare it while you wait. We had dinner there both nights we were in Carrapateria. The crowd is a mix of local folks, folks camping in vans nearby and some from the local hotels. We liked it!

It happens, place is popular and owner and servers see no need to be welcoming or nice. We asked for a table when half the outside deck with the stunning view over the Atlantic were empty, and were showed inside. When we asked if we could be outside, we were told in no uncertain terms that it was “ take it or leave it”. We decided to take it.. After 45 minutes of waiting for our order of sardińhas grelladas and lulas grelladas, we told the same guy we were still waiting. His answer was “ Yes, so?, you must keep waiting”. Having said this which would IMHO merit 1 star, I give them 3 because the food was excellent. Fresh fish and perfectly cooked, in a place with a stunning setting meriting a visit in itself. I would, knowing you are going to get bad and rude service, not hesitate to go back because the food was great. But they really should get their act together. It’s quite easy to be nice and makes for a much better experience. Price was a little over 25 euros a person for a main course for each and limiting to beer our drink choice. No dessert, but coffee.

Unpretentious great food

To be honest we were lost, the sat nav brought me to this place but I wanted to be 20 miles up the coast (my fault) We were ready for lunch there were lots of cars, it was busy and as my wife pointed out as we strolled up, a lovely smell coming from the kitchen. Luckily we were given a table on the terrace overlooking the sea. The staff were immediately welcoming, we had the sea bass and a steak but my roaming eye spotted octopus and squid dishes which made me regret my typically conservative choice. Great lunch glad I messed up the sat nav !

Bad Attitude and Impolite service

We arrived at around 18:30 and all the tables were "reserved" It was a bit odd for us to find all the tables like this in such an early time of the day, so we approached the waiter and asked if it was possible to find a table for us for just 10-15m since we just wanted to eat some ice cream and drink a couple of beers. The waiter was very unpleasant and wanted to seat us near the toilets, wich we promptly rejected because of the obnoxious smell. I don't recommend this place because if the waiters are like this I can't imagine how the rest is... The cat was nice though...

Almost the worst meal ever...

The restaurant is situated on a beautiful spot, it seems to have a nice ambiance. And when we looked at the menu, the prices suggested some worthy meals. So, we were looking forward to a pleasant dinner, also having ordered a nice rosé to go with the fish. Alas, when what we ordered was brought to our table - well, let's say that the disappoinment ran deep, what was put in front of us looked and tasted like leftovers, lukewarm, heated up in a micro wave.

Did not like. The view alone was fabulous

I was advised, namely the octopus cataplana, so expectations were high. In the end, I was disappointed. 1st, the gentleman who attended to us was anything but affable, responding harshly to our questions, apparently as if he was doing us a favor. We had an 11-month-old baby, so we asked the favor of bringing us a boiled egg and potatoes for the boy, to which the aforementioned gentleman replied: "It has to be one shot! That's what we serve." Although it was certainly true, it was an answer that didn't sit well with us, but I still responded that the price wasn't what was at stake, but rather that something was needed that the baby could eat since they didn't have any fish available. 2nd, the so-called Cataplana, I didn't consider it anything special, even if it had some flavor. 3rd and not least, we waited for the food for 1.5 hours. When we asked, we were told that there were many cataplanas to go out. However, this information was NOT given to us in time so that we could eventually opt for something else and the fish soups ordered, the grilled sea bream and the grilled steak also took the same amount of time. Taking into account that the soups would be a starter..... Furthermore, the steak was very dry and the fries were soft and full of fat. We don't intend to return. I'm sorry, because the view is very pleasant

Great fish restaurant in stunning position

Cliff top restaurant serving great fresh fish. Attentive and very friendly and efficient service. The house recommendations were slightly eclectic but the steaks were well cooked (albeit that the pepper sauce rather drowned one!). Get there early or pre-book as there was a long queue by 1.30pm

We have had lots of friends recommend this restaurant so we tried it today in a group. Chicken was dry , chips cold . Lulinhas were nice . Fish - interesting that the waiter brought Sea Bass large ones to share between 2 ! Without asking… as we were in a group 4 fish for 8 people. Not sat next to each other and obviously… why share with someone you hardly know ! … then the bill . People in the group didn’t understand €50 per 1 kg … so the 4 fish €164.00 . Experience the view …. Pay the price !!!

The staff were very attentive, especially a man with glasses who was very sorry about the fact that after an hour of waiting, the cataplana arrived raw. The problem is that besides being raw, the ray smelled and tasted like ammonia and the potatoes were completely resinous... Even so, we ate everything, me the potatoes, even though they weren't good, and some fish, because it was after 3:30 pm and I was starving, and my husband because he thought there was a strange flavor in the ray, but due to inexperience (and a holy little mouth) he thought that it was normal... In the end, they apologized and offered him coffee, I didn't want anything else 😕 In the end they said it was just the coffee on offer, which could have been more but as we didn't eat dessert...😅 I was sad, I was hoping to have found a place to return to. I hope that because I'm pregnant it just didn't feel very good but that it doesn't hurt me...🙏

A bittersweet experience, we were with many expectations for the Recommendation we were given from the restaurant, the truth that the right food, correct price but the 2 hours of waiting after ordering has been the negative point that has left us this bad taste in the mouth. If you can not assume so many tables do not take more people or warn when taking the order but do not leave the customers waiting for 2 hours for some garlic prawns that we order as a starter, and Second cataplana rap. We have not been the only ones, as we have seen tables around with even longer waits. If you are not in a hurry, or very hungry I recommend it but to avoid. We were about to pay for the water and wine and march.

Definitely a great location based on the views. Although the location is a bit remote. Seemed to be a favorite for bus/van tours to stop so it can get busy at lunch time. Serving staff seemed a bit impatient. One major aggravation was that there were no physical menus, only online or scanned. I hate ordering like this, 4 of us had to share the menu on a cell phone. It was also expensive, which i guess is because of the popularity and the views but the food didn't necessarily warrant it. Obviously a seafood restaurant but the four of us did think the meals were very good, average at best. I would try someplace different next time.

We went for lunch we chose fries and cow bite, excellent quality in the dishes very well served and we drank white wine. Refreshment place near the beach of Bordeira where you can go for your lunch break if you are on that beach. Menu with little choice, based on fish and shellfish, offers a choice of salads. In mine I found really bad the quality of the shrimp that I did not eat, pointing this out to the waiter. At the end of the meal I was not charged for my plate, with the apology of the cook. Of course, it can happen, but it would take more attention on the quality of the proposals.... still appreciated the final gesture.

At the far end of Meia Praia beach to Lagos town this restaurant has better than your average quality beachside food. The pork of prawn skewers are excellent and large. 1 will normally serve 2 people. Its always busy so worth booking in advance.

Stunning panorama. Mediocre food. Slow service. The waiter serves us the frozen creme brulee, fresh from the fridge. I ask him to heat it up and he explains to me that it is ice cream and should be eaten like that. The price is above the local level. To visit only if you have no alternatives.
