This is a great spot and well sited for a break. However, compared to 5 years ago, the cooked food makes it no longer a dining destination.

Me my friends from Norway were visiting New Zealand in February 2019 when we got trouble with our camper van in the evening. We had to pull over and ended up at the Licorice Café. They had just closed, But when we told them about...our trouble they let us in. We bought some licorice and they served us free coffee. Amazing people and service🙌🏼 If I am ever going back to New Zealand I am definitely going to stop by the Licorice Café.More
Husband enjoyed his pancakes and loved the berries that came with it. I had eggs bene on ciabatta but I just expected the ciabatta to be toasted even a little bit but nope it was just bread. Not for me. So it was not enjoyable....Brought some cakes though which were lovely. Tea was very nice. Service great.More
Excellent Breakfast. Timely, hit, accurate, tasty, great value for money, excellent staff. A delight to behold on a beautiful crisp sunny morning when very hungry.
So glad we stopped at this Cafe. The best coffee I’d had while away on holiday and such lovely, friendly service. Thank you so much 😊 A great end to our little holiday away.
Excellent range of tasty looking gluten free foods in cabinet, cleverly labelled with red labels as opposed to white for those containing gluten. Popped in for coffee and wished we didn’t have food plans a bit later as everything poked delicious. Kitchen busy with staff...preparing loads of fresh baked items. Had perfect macadamia brittle and a couple of other gf safe treats Coffee was exceptional. A mixed blend of sierra beans. The only let down was that milk options were just dairy and soy. Great outdoor courtyard.More
Great cafe, parking on loop road for large caravans and trucks. Fabulous service and lovely cabinet food.
Awesome staff serving healthy and nourishing food. Smiles all around for this Cafe.. Coffee is served with a small licorice allsort. Bags in a variety of sizes are available for purchase. Just the best for a long drive snack. Has an awesome cook. Great choices...all served to your table. From the egg roll to the Kumara vegetable special and do not forget to have the scrambled eggs and bacon.More
The food and coffee are great, but it's the staff that make this place a absolute gem. Trinity is a delight, such a positive friendly and wonderful person. Well be back again and again.
Been past many times , thought we would call in on our way home...pleasantly surprised, nice staff, good service and tasty food..will be calling in again!
A nice array of cabinet food or menu which includes toasted sandwiches, burgers, all day breakfast or fish and chips. Inside or outside seating, friendly staff and a very convenient place to stop, even just for an ice-cream or some licorice allsorts.
Having had a bad experience during our last visit to Licorice Cafe, we thought we would give them a second chance. Sadly it was a bad decision. We walked in at 3.45pm, they close at 4.00pm and were already taking down the open signs. When...we got inside it was clear that we were not welcome to sit inside and when I asked to use the toilet I was told there was one down the road. We purchased 5 coffees which were cold and we were made to feel like a real inconvenience at daring to expect service. We will NEVER go here again and I will be letting our friends know not to go there. Having worked in hospitality I found this very disappointing, I'm not sure if it was because we were Kiwis or if this is just their standard attitude to all of their customers - business must be booming to be so rude to customers.More
Visiting Taihape for the weekend so stopped in both directions. Nice lunch in the sun, pie for me, kumara stack for my wife. Both good and the coffee excellent, only coffee on the return trip but equally good. Nice staff, spotless rest room. Recommended.
Come on guys. I asked for almond or coconut milk got a flat no just soy. Very rude staff member Liz. I come up through here all the time as have a caravan here. Christmas time I’m here for a month. I’d love to patronise...you but if no milk I won’t. Your other staff member Deanna said I’ll pass this on to the owner. Very disappointing as every shop has almond.More
Had an enjoyable morning coffee and food sitting in the garden setting. Nice selection of food and coffee was good. The young girl who served us was very pleasant. Will return on our next trip
