I visited as a combined package with Goldfields Jet river-boating, which included a special menu and pre-selected "Estate WInes" flight at Carrick. Excellent service, superb wines, and a truly creative lunch platter that featured a sweet curry chutney, delicate green aioli, meats and cheeses, smoked salmon, and mussel, plus a "sweets" dessert try to sample various finishers. The wine flight included an unusually fruity / thus interesting Sauv Blanc, a solid Pinot Gris, an unremarkable rose, and a good Pinot Noir that next to the whites was not a standout. Loved the menu and the food, loved the wines, loved the service. Small-scale, intimate, outdoors, and beautiful.

We headed straight here from the airport and were rewarded with a lovely lunch and wonderful views. On a good day sit outside and enjoy the views down the hill to the lake, and across to the vineyard, but the inside tables were still very nice if the wind is up or it is raining. We had the lamb shoulder for 2 and it was massive - with the extras could easily have fed a table of 4. Perfectly cooked, and the potatoes were awesome. Matched it with 2 different glasses of the local pinot, with just about everything the winery produced available by the glass. Food was still being served to people who arrived just before 3, and the platters for the bigger tables loooked impressive. No room for dessert, sadly, but a great experience. As always in NZ, lovely, friendly service.

We visited several times over the Christmas New Year period, both for their delicious pizza and stopped in for a coffee and scone, each time (x4 with various friends/family) we weren’t disappointed. The pizzas are top class, the cheese scones absolutely delicious and the coffee was great. We did a wine tasting on one of these visits, yes you have to pay but 4 wines generous tasting portions it wasn’t too expensive. Certainly would recommend it and the location was out of this world. The owners were working hard in all aspects of the business and appreciated their staff.

We usually visit Carrick for a post-Christmas family lunch but unfortunately this will likely be the last time. I wonder if they are trying to cover too many types of clientele (ie fine dining, casual drinks, pizzas & coffees) – it seemed like staff were stretched pretty thin, perhaps due to covid vaccination policies. They no longer do tastings which is really disappointing. Most wineries have cellar door tastings for a small fee or even complimentary if you are dining in. The meals came out relatively quickly and were very tasty (the venison was cooked to perfection) but the portions were small though. It felt like we were forgotten once meals were served and we had to go inside to request water a couple of times as no one came to check everything was ok. Lovely outlook but we have decided to try different option next year.

This is an excellent restaurant with a great menu and lovely ambience. We first visited in 2016 with a family group of twelve people, who all agreed that it was a high point in their visit to the South Island. It was wonderful to find in 2022 that the food is still as good and the garden view just as wonderful. We can recommend the panzanella salad, the duck risotto and fish of the day enthusiastically. We splurged with dessert (the Whittaker's Chocolate Gateau and the Lemon Mousse with Berries) and have no regrets. If you are on the way to any of the multi-day bike rides, this is the place for lunch.

A pleasant experience with a great outlook and a nice lunch. We all had the fish which was very nicely presented and the taste lived up to its appearance. Personally I thought it was a fairly small amount if food, but then maybe it was because it was so nice I ate too quickly. This place has to be recommended.

Visited for lunch. On entering the building, it was FREEZING. There was a gas fireplace but that was not lit for at least an hour. Everyone in the restaurant had rugs over there legs or shoulders.. It is a cavernous space lacking ambience. Tearooms style tables and cold tiled floor.. The staff seemed very inexperienced with the exception of Victoria who was very pleasant and seemed to know her stuff. The overpriced platter was underwhelming. It had come out of the fridge and everything was extremely cold. Served on an ordinary white dinner late. It was chaos at the counter when paying with one person trying to cope with pouring tastings and at least 8 people waiting to pay. Fabulous outdoor setting and beautiful views. Probably wont return but I'm hoping it was just a bad day.

I would like to say thanks to Sol for her service. We had to wait a while for part of our order but she was attentive and happy to help when approached and we finally received it. A very casual and relaxed atmosphere . One of the dinners was disappointed with the potato chips on his beef sandwich, expected something a little more substantial . Wine fantastic.

If you are going to ride the Dunstan Trail why not start at Clyde and finish at Carrick Wines. After a scenic ride along the Clutha River and a coffee at the coffee boat you ride up through the stone ruins, olive groves and vineyards. Feels like you could be in Europe somewhere. The trails takes in Carrick Wines who have a food truck on the front lawn to provide a restful and tranquil spot to enjoy a glass of fine Carrick wine or local brewed beer paired with pizza and fries. The view over the inlet is quintessential Central Otago. You can even arrange a pick up from your bike hire company if requested. This is our second time enjoying this experience and look forward to many more as we host friends from the North Island.

Carrick has it all – fantastic location with a lawn sweeping down to the river, great food, nice wine, and now a major cycle trail running through its property. They’ve been smart enough to grab this opportunity with both hands, setting or a caravan on the lawn for cyclists to grab a pizza, a coffee or a drink and then ride on. But the best experience is still the original – book a table, and enjoy a lovely lunch as you watch the kids run around the lawn, and enjoy the views. Service is good, food is excellent, and they are good with dietary issues.

We arrived with no booking and they kindly allowed us to sit in the foyer chairs for lunch. Initially they said only the cheese platter was available, but they relented when questioned and we ordered off the menu. We each had the duck, and each chose their excellent Pinot Noir. Everything was delicious and we were so thankful they were willing to accommodate us. This isn't our first visit to Carrick and certainly won't be our last.

We were here for lunch and wine tasting as part of a small group winery tour. Lunch was a platter of breads, cold meats, cheeses and so on. It was very good. We tasted 4 wines-a pinot noir, rose and a couple of dry whites. Also all very good. The magnificent setting for all this was a terrace overlooking the Kawarau river and surrounded by the vineyards and mountains of the Bannockburn region. Every winery we visited on the day was excellent, but if I had to recommend just one to visit, it would be Carrick.

We hadn’t booked but they made a space for us on the outside deck, the food and the general ambience with million dollar views and the wineries of Otago bathed in autumnal colours. We had a light lunch but what we had was superb, chicken liver and pancetta pâté, crispy toast and a locally made blackcurrant and rhubarb chutney. The rhubarb semifreddo was really good too. There are organic wines and beer, both very good and thirst quenching on a warm autumn day. The winery can be accessed by the Dunstan Lake cycle trail giving riders an extra dimension to their ride and the affagato coffee from the caravan on the edge of the track was great. Recommend booking if at all possible.

Fabulous meal and excellent service. We did the wine tasting first and found our ‘guide’ to be really knowledgeable and friendly. She recommended we try the Pet Nat with lunch, and even came over while we were dining to see what we thought of it (We loved it and bought a few bottles). The food was really top notch. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the duck even got a ‘wow’ from someone who rarely ever makes that sort of comment. The lamb shoulder was exquisite. My only very small feedback is that the lamb came to the table quite a while after all the other meals. Overall a very enjoyable outing. I will definitely be back.

We found the whole venue was very scruffy outside and around the lake. The pizza/coffee caravan not in step with the up market restaurant Food was extremely good but our table was in the wind and shade and even with blankets we were cold. Service was dismal and really not up to standard for the prices charged. One meal was brought 30 mins before the last person was served not acceptable. Still waiting on coffees. Wouldn’t go again as better options else where.
