I live locally and often visit this cafe. The food is great, staff courteous, and premises clean. The prices also are normal in spite of what Miss 'Absolutely Shocked' claims. Make sure you visit and I recommend the salmon eggs bene.
Pleasant stop on the state highway - baked goods were high quality, and mostly housemade; lots of to-order options available. The giant crispy sausage roll and apple tart were excellent: the spanakopita was OK, elevated by a really really good salad and crispy fries. Friendly,...helpful waistaff. We ate in the covered garden area - there's an uncovered one too.
The attached gift shop was surprisingly good - their wine range had some affordable options, and their gift range was appealing even if you live in NZ.More
Sad to receive overcooked eggs with no crispness to bacon. My vegan husband couldn't get toast with his lovely mushrooms as there was no vegan option. As an infrequent traveler who has always loved my experience in the past, not so keen to return. Pricey...and we are looking for toast elsewhere though we paid for toast at Pukeko Junction. The lovely warm fire didn't disappoint though.More
They have a variety of good food for lunch or coffee. I took a file which comes with a very small salad on the side. The salad was very tasty, but it would have been great with a slightly bigger salad. They also sell salads...(couscous salad and ordinary salad). In general, the food looked good. Toilets are outside the restaurant. Service can be a bit slow (there was a queue all the time, and kitchen had problems keeping up with the demand).More
This was our first visit and certainly won’t be our last.
The food was absolutely delicious. We can not rate it highly enough. The portion sizes offered are sum up in one word - huge! The sausage roll and salad was shared due it’s share...size. The carrot cake... moist and full of flavour. Only downside was the Chocolate Brownie which we felt was too heavy but that was the only negative.
Try the “bowl” cappuccino!!! It literally is a bowl and for only $6 but it was smooth and brewed beautifully. Enjoyed the Earl Grey Tea.
The premises were clean and tables cleared immediately. The service was great, staff were friendly and tables cleared immediately. The gift shop next door was a nice addition.More

We've been dropping in to the Pukeko Junction on and off for fourteen years now. Sometimes our favourite dishes are sold out, so we try something else. But we drive hundreds of kms just to have their Chicken and Mushroom Filo - so we often ring ahead to be sure they've got some! They're always busy since they're so popular - so availability of dishes is variable.
