We took 2 starters the cheese jalapanos for 12$ was missing fews pieces. The second starter was the 7 layer dip, its not written but a dominant taste of coriander ruined a bit the great quality of ingredients to make the sauce, but also missing...fews corn chips unfortunately... and if you need more you have to pay $2 !!! Our meal is the low and slow platte carnivore $52 was not really worth it to my opinion, i was thinking more venison, angus beef, lamb but you have pork, chicken and brisket ... except if you add more money to more option. The service was great but 3 differents waitress is not really helpful and a bit random.More

After reading about this place in the news, we decided it had to be worth a visit, and it was. Book ahead - it's really popular, and you will see why. Good prices, and absolutely delicious food, this would rate up there as one of...the best places we've eaten at in NZ (and we are regular travellers) - a real hidden gem. We said to the wait staff after the entrees - the mains are going to have to be pretty good to beat that - and they were. Wish we lived closer by....and this is also the place that does the speciality doughnuts, so we sampled them the next morning (totally recommend the creme brulee and the cheese-burger doughnut is worth trying for something very different!) Motueka, you are very lucky.More

My wife, daughter and I darkened their door step on recommendations that this was the place to eat in Motueka; but when we arrived we thought we were invisible. The staff ignored us, stood round talking to one another. What else could we do, we...left!!!More

We were really looking forward to stopping in, as we had a great experience last year. However this time we were not greeted by any of the staff near the door and struggled to get any attention by the main counter. This was around 5pm...with a nearly empty restaurant. Once acknowledged, staff told us that all of the tables were reserved and they couldn't take us. Some of the reservation times we saw on the way out were 2 or more hours away! If the restaurant is fully booked as we were told, maybe a sign on the door would be helpful?More

Our first visit we had coffee and donuts, takeaway. Really good aside from the wait. Would buy again. Second visit for a meal, Chicken waffle stack, dry buttermilk chicken, tonnes of terrible coleslaw with competing sweet and sour taste, badly done. Less is more both...quantity and flavours. Not nice juice tasted a little watered down, good coffee. So disappointing after all the hype. The poor layout means a chokepoint toward middle of cafe leading to the appearance of busy but really the floor staff aren't flat out because of all the empty, reserved tables - up front and out the back where we were. They are not proactive either. The widely panned reviewer from Wellington with his criticism of reserved tables might have had a bit of a point. Counter staff flat out and dour. Take the winter slow down to look at a more efficient layout and that might ease the workload and traffic flow all round. Tinny sound system. Sticky tables.More

What an awesome place this is. We had the doughnuts one day, and came back for dinner the next. The doughnuts were soft and flavourful, and there was a wide range of flavours. They were expensive but worth the price. Dinner was a BBQ affair....We shared a platter, chicken, pork belly and salad between two adults and one child. This was more than enough food. The food was all awesome, and we’d gladly go back again and again.More

We got recommended this place for a coffee and doughnut on our travels, so well worth the stop!! Waitress was so nice and cheerful and told us about the two lovely ladies that work hard on making the doughnuts so delicious! Thanks so much (:

Questions & Answers

A few questions on the the vegetarian options please. Are they prepared on the same surfaces using the same utensils as for the animal flesh? (I expect that's yes.) If so, are the surfaces and utensils cleaned thoroughly between an animal flesh dish and a vegetarian dish? (I'm vegetarian not vegan so honey, milk and unfertilised eggs aren't a problem.) Does the ingredient list for the cheese used in the vegetarian dishes explicitly state the rennet is plant/fungus based? Are all sauces free from animal fat (except butter), fish, shellfish etc? For me, this is as important avoiding pig or beef is to most Muslims or Hindus and I would like to be reassured that my vegetarian order is extremely unlikely (I know there is always some small chance of an error but earnest effort goes a long way) to be contaminated by contact with dead animal. No worries if you can't reassure me, I know how busy kitchens get. I won't do a Peter or a Brian, I'll just tell my friends to drop one off their booking and wish them a great night at your (by all reasonable accounts) superb restaurant. Cheers guys.
