Scallywags is a fresh new pop up cafe located just minutes from the marina in Nelly Bay. We specialize in vibrant colorful and fresh healthy food served amidst our pirate themed, theatrical, lush, tropical courtyard setting. We also serve spectacular organic fair trade coffee and offer a range of free range and locally sourced meats, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. We operate between the months of May -Oct in Nelly Bay and are otherwise trading nationally at festivals. Come on down to Scallywags cafe for a family friendly fun feast, coffee, smoothie or snack!!

We visited Scallywags 3 times during our 5 day stay on Maggie Island.
The service was outstanding each time, very friendly and accommodating. One night the staff stayed back an extra hour as we were having such a great time.
The food was very big and delicious. Açai bowl served with lots of extra fruit, the mushroom & beans had heaps of flavour.
The salads were fantastic (I don’t usually order salads, so that says something)
Very reasonable priced too!

My wife and I visited this restaurant this evening. First observation was when ordering a wine was. . . . . no wine. This premises is a BYO only. No real issue as an off license is only a brief walk. Panic over!
The restaurant offers a good menu and the service is just great. My wife had a beef salad and I a burger. Both meals were delicious and we have no hesitation in recommending Scallywags as a pleasant location to eat good food with a side of friendly attentive service.

Great food great staff - especially the owner who came round to everyone’s table to say hello and thanks for coming. We went with two families of four and everyone came away happy to bring your own booze was great for a cheaper meal out. Most of us got the burgers and they were huge no one left hungry.

The food is very underwhelming. They favour quantity over quality. The meals are huge but the quality isn’t great. The best thing on our breakfast was the packet hash brown and the steamed spinach. Bacon was tasteless and the sausage was kransky, with a seam of cheese inside. Just awful. They even managed to make the scrambled eggs taste weird. Also, the $23 breakfast ended up being nearly $26 when the weekend surcharge and the credit card fees were applied. Will not be returning. Nourish in Horseshoe is further away but well worth the effort.

As a vegetarian I loved having so many different options that we ate here for 2 dinners and 1 breakfast. The food was great and we loved the atmosphere and friendly staff.
The first night both our burgers were perfect, my husband had the BBQ beef and bacon and I had the haloumi and pineapple. The fries were nice and crispy with a to die for relish.
The second night my husband braved a huge double beef burger, which he had no chance of finishing. I opted for a caramelised tofu salad which was full of flavour.
For breakfast I had the homemade baked beans with poached eggs which I thoroughly enjoyed. My husband liked his eggs benedict and my daughter inhaled her pancakes!

We enjoyed a lovely breakfast of pancakes with maole syrup & ice cream, and eggs benedict with a pot of tea and latte.
The pancakes were small like pikelets, drowned in maple syrup. The ice cream served in a glass on the plate. Would have been better to have rhe syrup in its container so you could decide how much you want to have, as it was so sweet on the tastebuds. Would also have preferred larger pancakes, as most people would class them as pikelets. So these ranked as average.
The eggs benedict was good, without being great. Eggs were cooked very nicely..
The coffee was nice and served at the correct temperature.
The tea was also good, served in a pot.
Service was very good from the friendly staff.
Overall, it was good without being great. Would still go there again

Every time we go to Magnetic Island we can always rely on Scallywags being open. We have found the food to be well cooked, presented attractively and the specials interesting. Portions are usually generous. Additionally, it has an eclectic vibe. A good place for couples and families alike.

We went on Thursday night and caught the fire show (approximately 6;30). It was fun, and the kids loved it (especially the little kids in the crowd). Food was lovely - large portion sizes, well cooked and good value for money. Great friendly service. Highly recommend a visit.

Scallywags (located in Nelly Bay not far from the ferry terminal) looked fun and interesting with its pirate theme & decor so I came in specially for breakfast from Horseshoe on my scooter. I loved the food (pancakes with seasonal fruit & yoghurt), the friendly staff, the music (loved hearing Nina Simone’s Sinner Man) and the pirate ship theme (the cooking area is elevated behind the counter in pop up room make to look like a pirate ship). They have a cool kids area and so much awesome decor to take in. Well done to the Scallywags team, you’ve done well ‘me hearties!

My friend and I went here for a late breakfast. We both ordered Eggs Benedict with bacon and we were both happy with the food and the generous serving of bacon. My cappuccino was very good and my friend's mixed fruit juice as also very good. Only one gripe was that the waitress brought and order to our table which should have gone to another table. This was promptly sorted out.

We were super impressed with the clever concept, value for money and delicious food at Scallywags! The kids loved the atmosphere and the staff were super friendly too. Thanks to the owners for providing a wonderful place for our family to enjoy. We went back again it was that good!

We visited this cafe every day in the week we stayed on Magnetic Island. It is "offbeat" in a good way. All the staff on each occasion were friendly, polite and helpful. The food was always good and plentiful and great value for money. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

Had brekkie here and the whole experience was excellent. The food was delicious (the vegetarian breakfast especially), staff attentive and friendly, great family atmosphere. Lots of healthy options and the kids loved their not quite as healthy pancakes with maple syrup and ice-cream. It's open until 8pm and walking past it at night it also looks like a great atmosphere with the lighting and vibe. Highly recommended.

Sometimes it takes a few days, or even weeks, to find such a hidden gem. After many recommendations, we finally chose the right moment in our Journey to dine at Scallywags at Nelly Bay on Magnetic Island. Wishing we had dined at Scallywags sooner! Wishing I could extend our trip further, just to dine another time at this special place! Will travel here again, to Magnetic Island, even just for one day, just to dine here. It would be a fantastic day trip from Townsville, on the ferry. Next time we visit, it will be our first point of call. They are open for breakfast until 8pm. There is a super kids play area, which is so rare. For people (like myself) who have special food requirements, please let them know as soon as you walk in. They will make sure you are looked after, as any five star restaurant would. They will make your minds and tummies feel well. If I could rate an extra sixth green circle rating, would have no hesitation in doing so! Thank you to everyone at Scallywags on Magnetic Island! We totally look forward to returning again!

After visiting many restaurants on the island, which provided a less than adequate experience, this restaurant was a great way to end our holiday. Not only was the food mouth-watering with a menu that caters to many dietary requirements, the service was also something to be acknowledged. During our meal, the staff not only showed excellent professional service but also extended beyond this to compassionately aid a crying child and help the parents to handle the situation where help was clearly needed.
Definitely, a must visit at Maggie!
