Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Came here after hearing good things. Went for dinner which restaurant opened at 530, the whole place was packed with every table in use, the weather was terrible so couldn’t sit outside, only one person assuming the owner manning the bar until someone else came to help, 40 minute wait for food and we were one of the tables first to order. One women band in the kitchen? Came out with a baby in a pack for the first lot of chips that came out to a table. All 3 drinks were FLAT - lemonade, raspberry/coke - end of bottles Disappointed in the drinks, lack of staff $5 for a rig was pretty good! Ordered rig meal (all means come with chips & salad) which came with 2 large battered fish, small chips & salad and sauce - sauce vinagery as was the salad an over kill on both. We’d all skipped lunch so we are our meals & didn’t order any more drinks.

Went to the Seddonville hotel for dinner with friends over labour weekend Did the decent thing and booked a table for 4 for 6pm . Arrived to a busy pub on time and was told we should have a table soon as most of the people in the bar were there to drink not eat. Got a drink and waited and waited and waited and finally at 7pm someone left and we jumped on the table. At which point the owner seemed surprised that we’d managed to secure a table and then said if we wanted food we would need to go to the bar and order. This would have been a helpful tip 60 minutes ago. So we ordered and yep waited and waited and waited and finally some of got our food at 8pm and the rest at 8 15pm , no apology for the 2 hour plus wait. The food was quite possibly the worst I’ve ever experienced, was over priced deep fried rubbish the salad or coleslaw was hideous . I appreciate this is a rural pub but surely if someone rings up 5 hours early to book a table then at least set one aside or if you don’t do bookings then let your clientele know, I’ve run restaurants so I know how difficult it can be at times but communication is vital and a 2 hour wait for food with no apology or even acknowledgement is a piss take. 0/10 . Will never return!!

After six days tramping the Old Ghost Road we spent a couple of days at the Seddonville Hotel to recover and repack for our next tramp. We were treated very well at a very reasonable rate for the room, were able to do our washing / drying of clothes and enjoyed the food and drinks at the pub. We found the locals hospitable and the land lord a great cook and good host - although it was on of his last weeks in this hotel (after nearly 20 years). Graeme does an amazing job, running the show, including shop, post office, motels and restaurant almost by himself. Thanks for the great hospitality.

Sometime when you go into a local country pub there is trepidation as to the response you will get and while all the local patrons did turn and look at us on arrival, they greeted us with a smile and made us feel welcome. The proprietor was very friendly and accommodating. Pub was warm and cosy on a chilly evening. Food - faultless. Went back for both nights we were in the area and second night just as good as the first. Thanks heaps Graeme - look forward to our return visit hopefully sooner rather than later. Cheers Jan and Stephen

The multi-skilled Graeme runs a great little pub which relies on business from the few locals of Seddonville and walker/bikers at the beginning or end of the Old Ghost Road. He runs the bar, cooks all the meals from a large menu, runs the adjacent store/Post Office and also manages the 4xadjacent motel units - with amazing flexibility. The food is great kiwi kai, and the beds in the motels were among the most comfortable I've ever slept in - and not only because I'd spent the previous 4 nights in tramping huts!

The barman was a very friendly character. The pub's walls have a lot of interesting photos from the area. The food was spot on after a few days on the Old Ghost Road and there is a good range of beers. There is also a small dairy out the back for essential supplies, like icecreams!

Had dinner here after completing Old Ghost Rd. Good selection considering the owner does it all himself. All meals come with chips and salad. You can also have takeaway meal 8f prefer such as hamburgers or fish and chips. We also had dessert which was good basic options. Owner was great to chat to and the pub had 2 lovely fires going to keep it cosy.

The bridge to get into Gentle Annies was under repair so we detoured for a short ride into Seddonville. Hotel sold icecreams which we ate while learing about the history of the area - forestry - mining - floods - fires. Excellent information on wall inside tavern.

Our group was booked into this hotel. It had just the type of friendly ambiance to set the group at ease and get to know each other. The cooked style kiwi food would introduce any international traveller to NZ kai. The substantial breakfast set us up for the day.

Coming off the ghost road after three days, we were hungry... and the friendly barman whipped up a feast: whitebait sandwiches, burgers, big breakfast, mixed grill, and plenty of beer. This was really really good food, so good I'm posting this review while we're still talking about our dessert order
