Lasagne was not tasty.

There’s lots to like here. Garlic pizza bread $15 to start is a must. Cocktails $17-$19 were delicious. He liked the tagliatelle con maiale (roasted pork) $29, and she liked the pizza. I had the lasagne $30 and it was a disappointment. Somehow both the herbs one would expect, and the salt, both got missed, and the bechamel sauce was nowhere to be seen. It was really bland. Not recommended. Wait person didn’t come back to our table to ask if our meals were ok, or I would have asked for some salt. There was none on the table. Otherwise service was pleasant.

Passo is a great place for lunch. The staff are friendly and attentive and the pastas we chose were delicious, well portioned and affordable. Unfortunately nobody ordered a pizza, but I have heard good things about them too. An excellent addition to the Kapiti food scene.

Our favourite place on the Kapiti Coast. We have been regulars for some time and the food and ambience can’t be faulted. Other reviewers commented on variable experience with service, something we have not ourselves experienced. But some folk have to wake up to the reality that it is near on impossible to get high quality experienced hospitality staff in NZ these days and we think Michele is doing really well getting friendly enthusiastic staff in board. This place always has a good vibe. We have been to pretty much all regions of Italy over the years and the food is truly authentic. Ben fatto!

Myself and family on vacation... Venue almost fully booked... Gave us seats outside in the cold said they had outdoor heating but ran out of gas... On order gave my wife wrong pizza, only when i tasted her pizza i notice it was a seafood pizza which she didn't order. We couldn't see our food because of bad lighting after all we were seated outside... On deserts my wife ordered a coffee which never arrived.. I did raised my concerns with manager but was treated if we were at fault... Won't recommend and too expensive for what yoi get

Can you vacate your table!!!

No restriction of table sitting on confirmation of booking(was advised there should have been). On knowing that we didn’t receive this information and acknowledging this we were still asked to vacate our table. In the 1hr30min sitting we waited 12 minutes to get our first round of drinks. 45 minutes for our main!! No starters ordered(good job we didn’t as would have been walking out with our main plates). Then on the 1hr 29th minute being asked if we would like to see the desert menu but need to vacate the table within 15mins. We had not long received our second drink. How could we contemplate that we would even receive a desert and eat it within that time let alone finish of our second round of drinks which I must add felt rushed. We turned down ordering desert on the basis we were being rushed out of the restaurant having had to endure a lengthy wait as it was for our food. On exiting and paying the server apologised for the non-informing of the table turnaround(no apologies however for how long we waited for our food or our rushed second round of drinks) At the very least those drinks could have been given on the house out of consideration or courtesy for the non advisory of this at confirmation of our booking, but no, nothing other than being asked to vacate. ABSOLUTELY spoiled our evening and disheartened by our evening out. Embarrassed towards our friends to which we recommended going here. Will not recommend to anyone in the future.

Went here for family birthday lunch but wouldn’t go again. Service was SLOW & minimal and wait staff didn’t appear to have a clue or be bothered finding out about their own menu items . Among the worst pizza I’ve ever eaten burnt base, tasteless sauce and skimpy topping. Rest of groups meals very average. Doors at both end of restaurant wide open on a windy day and was like sitting on a wind tunnel. Not a pleasant experience overall

Reasonable experience with ok service but ordered the special of the day tagliatelle seafood which was very disappointing with a lot of empty shells and prawn heads without the bodies and a lot of tomatoes and very little else for $30 , the martini’s were badly made and I ordered a dry martini’s with very little vermouth and got a dirty martini with an olive and very salty . Why have martini’s on your drinks list if the bar staff or waitering staff don’t know how to make them. Not sure if we will return.

Very good food, but poor service. Young staff, obviously with little training and no oversight from the person in charge. Glasses empty with no offers to refill, customers having to walk to the bar to get attention. Offered dessert menus, but did not deliver. Constantly having to attract attention to make a request. Four older diners asked twice to make an order, told to wait a minute both times.

Food overall was great but the service was bad. The guy waiting the tables spent too much time cleaning up rather than looking after the guests, we waited too long for drinks, entrees and the mains, didn’t ask us if we wanted any more drinks and never turned up to ask if we wanted any deserts. we left without getting any additional service, I had to go to the kitchen to ask for a takeaway box as the waiter was too busy outside dumping bottles and rubbish. It’s a shame as last time we went it was excellent might have been an off night but will find somewhere else to go next time.

Tonight was the third time we have visited Passo in the last six months since we moved from Wellington to Kapiti. I have a shout-out: Passo is the best service, ambiance, and food on the Kapiti Coast. The staff are always so obviously into making sure we have a great night. Funny, polite, and very informative. They are a great team. The wine list is fun and affordable. The Italian/Sicilian menu is an adventure that always plays out on the platting up. My wife is a bit of a Lasagne gourmet and she reported that the Passo Lasagne was top shelf. My creamy Pollo sauce was very delicious. This must sound like a rave, but the Passo team delivered a great night again. Thank you.

Good food done well.

Easily the best meal I have had in ages. I had the marsala chicken which they cooked for me even though it was still lunchtime. Portion size was good and sauce was generous. They chicken was crumbed which I thought Id not be so keen on but it was crunchy and beautifully cooked. My husband had a pizza which was well above the ordinary . It was well balanced and had some great flavours. Will go back soon.

Proper Italian cuisine

Was introduced to this place for a works meal, and honestly I’ll never rue that day! Went back again a week later. The pasta is how it should be, the flavours and ingredients authentic to Italian cuisine (like using guanciale). The pizzas are spot on, amongst the best I’ve had (and I’ve had them in Naples) - the tomato bases have so much flavour in them. The chilli oil on the tables is hot, and delicious. Warmed olives was a new one for me and it is my new favourite thing! The tiramisu and gelato were perfect. Went again in July and took a friend for their first try. They loved it. We tried the Arancini type balls (they had sun dried tomato and olives in) and they were divine. The only let down was we got rushed out coz our time was up as such, which ordinarily is fine, BUT we hadn’t been asked for afters, we had been waiting to order desserts/coffees for half an hour…

Online pickup booking. In the past their online payment system hasn't worked so we prefer to pay on collection. We ordered extra olives ($4) on one pizza but arrived home to find them missing. The food is good but they just need to take more care.

Evening Spoiled

After a very bright and sparking waitress had taken our order with a flourish, a beautiful bottle of Chianti was brought to our table and our waitress took photos for us to sent to our far off sister to celebrate her mile stone birthday. The mood was set for an awesome evening when the “atmosphere hoover” arrived a small blond waitress with the grace charm and tact of a house brick, telling us she wanted us out by a certain time because some one had JUST rang to book a table and we needed to be gone in a time frame she specified, we challenged that we had not been informed when booking, this was dismissed and we were told that we had plenty of time to eat! 1. If there is a time limit on a table have the grace to let the customer know when booking. 2. Send this waitress off the charm school preferably for a long time. Food good, service prompt, evening spoiled. We won’t be back.

Hi Andy, We’re really sorry that you had a bad experience with one of our waitresses. It’s not in our policy to tell people to leave by a certain time, unless we’ve said at the time of booking. Despite regular training on this issue, this waitress did not follow our policy with your table. This waitress had already resigned from Passo and will be leaving soon. Food great - shame abut the service

We frequent this restaurant about twice a month. It seems to get noisier each time we visit which make it hard to chat. Food never lets you down. We were offered the specials so quietly that we had to have it repeated. When asking the waitress she did not know what some of the pasta dishes were. We were told one of ours was tagliatelle, but it was actually gamelli. We were not offered parmesan or black pepper. We started with garlic bread, followed by a main, then a desert. Food presentation not as good as it used to be - have you new chefs? We were then given our bill and asked to vacate the table as people were waiting. We had wanted to have coffee but were not even offered that. I know you are busy and have people waiting but it was not a good impression when we had invited friends out for the meal, praising your restaurant. Bad practice..
