Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a lovely small restaurant. Don't be put off by the uninteresting exterior - inside it is clean and bright and the food is outstanding. We came for a family dinner and ordered several dishes. All were excellent and the portions were generous. The chicken tikka masala was especially good and there were several items on the menu which we had not come across in other Indian restaurants. If you live locally or are passing through Te Awamutu we would highly recommend the Heart of India for good quality casual dining.

Have lived here for awhile and never been. Was recommended by a mate. Took parents and family here. Wow… can not fault it. Food was great. Even the owner who was also the chef came to table to talk. Learnt a lot aabout history of some of the dishes. Would highly recommend if you love Indian cuisine.

What a fantastic little restaurant. We found things on the menu we have not seen at other Indian restaurants. We both tried dishes we have never seen before and it was truly yum! Service was great....friendly staff who were genuinely interested in what we thought of our meal. We will definitely eat here again!

When I lived in Te Awamutu six years ago I used to love going to Heart of India. The food was amazing and I still think it’s some of the best Indian food I’ve had. Dishes are prepared fresh and don’t use the bulk sauces that many restaurants do. I moved to Auckland six years ago and there is no shortage of Indian food outlets. If you pay a premium then you can find really great food here but I’m no expert. I have to say that this little restaurant in Te Awamutu is hard to beat! Their food is still great 6 years on and I can see from their other reviews that I’m not alone in recommending this place. Well done Pankash, the effort you go to has made you a bit famous. Can’t wait to come back!

Since my first review, we've now been back here about 6 times (every time we visit TA). These days I'm able to pre-order on the phone & it makes life so much easier. We've never had a dud meal from them - absolutely love their food.

While this place might be a little on the pricey side...you definitely can't complain once you taste the deliciousness. We just got takeaway - Butter chicken, lamb madras. I loved the naan - husband said they were too soft. Good amounts of spice. Service was great too. Lovely and friendly - we will definitely be back.

This is the second time we've had food here. Both times couldn't get through on the phone, so just had to turn up & order. The first time wasn't too bad, but the most recent time was absolutely diabolical. It took almost an hour for our order - they kept telling my husband it was because "the order was so big" - it was for 4 dishes & 2 Naan, not the biggest order ever. Both times the food was great - and I'm a dedicated Indian food lover.

It's not often we eat a decent Indian meal, the last one was in Auckland. Yet here tucked far far away in a quiet corner of this sleepy market town truly is ' The Heart of India'. We found this wee place by accident looking for some comfort food and the supermarket next door just wouldn't do! We were greeted gently and warmly to this small , clean and functional space. The menu is sound with lots to choose from. We had the chicken korma, not too hot, lots of chicken and flavour. They catered for my Gluten Free diet and understood what not to offer. The service was quick and polite. we were delighted just to find somewhere authentic and comfortable for a quick early evening dinner. We didn't try out the puddings- far too full. Give this place a try you will be surprised.

Staff were very friendly, was ready quite quickly (I got takeaway). Four curries and naan nailed me 80$, didn't get any papadum free or whatever, that goes a long way in terms of courtesy at that price. As I was opening my tikka chicken I noticed the green was a bit lumpy in the yogurt/cucumber accompaniment. Turned out it had gone rancid. Sad because that dip is very nice to have with spicier tandoori chicken. I could tell the Tikka was microwaved too. I do enjoy fresh meats and will gladly pay more to competition for it. The food was average imo, won't be going back unless they have decent specials at some stage. Check condiments are fresh before you leave.

We strongly advise to give this one a miss. We had a takeaway here one day and both meals were so poor that when I arrived home I phoned the restaurant to register our dissatisfaction and was not offered a refund but told that, if we came down there to the restaurant we would be given two free meals. We didn’t chance it.
