Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We had a wonderful overnight stay at this family owned B&B. We checked in late and they were very accommodative, with a simple but nice breakfast served in the morning. The views of most rooms are great, especially overlooking the famous signpost. Best pro tip, is to go out to the signpost after it gets dark and most tourists leave and to take some slow shutter photos, which produce the most amazing shots of the Milky Way! Also in the morning or for lunch walk over to the Oyster restaurant owned by the same family, which has oysters even when most restaurants can't get them as they are sometimes out of season (eg in January).

We decided to spend a night in Bluff at the end of our 11 day holiday and Lands End Boutique Hotel was our chosen destination. The weather was raining and windy when we arrived but we received a friendly welcome. Our room had a lovely view over Foveaux Strait and scattered islands. The room is pretty compact but had everything we required including delicious Stir real tea leaves to make a cuppa and Nespresso machine. The hotel is a little old world feeling, more like a private hotel. There are a flight of stairs to all accommodation, which with heavy luggage might be tricky, but I'm sure assistance would be available. We pre-booked an evening meal at the Oyster Cove restaurant next door and the cooked breakfast included in the room rate is at Oyster Cove too, only from 8am-10am. This would not suit those leaving earlier than 8am and it is only a cooked breakfast so no quick option of toast or continental options like cereal etc offered. The cooked option is table service, ordered and cooked freshly so this takes time. The bed was very comfortable and the room warm.

The check-in and out was so easy. The receptionist was lovely, english wasn't perfect, but she was lovely, helpful and chatty. Plus she realised that we were leaving early in the morning before breakfast for a tour, so organised with the other staff to put cearels, yogurt and fruit in our room the night before - superb. The daily breakfast was basically but all that you needed. The location was great, with beautiful scenery. The accommodation was clean, beds were sooooo comfortable, amenities were fresh & modern and the decor was nice, comfortable and fresh. Free wifi and parking.

You really are at Lands End, with a view to the southern horizon, the few islands scattered before you. The views at Sterling Point are remarkable, the location perfect. Only a few km out to the township, the famous directional sign outside, and the start of the coastal track and NZ walkway too, this is an ideal spot. The relaxing sound of the relentless waves your accompliment to sleep. Next door is the Oyster Cove restaurant, and the Glory Track for an enjoyible, albeit uphill to start, walk.

Lovely little hotel ….. very clean and beautifully decorated inside….. arrived at 19.10 pm and note on door stated to go to restaurant over the path…… unfortunately dinner service finished at 19.00 pm but the chef stayed on and we were able to have fish and chips which was lovely ….. room upgraded to the private suit for no extra charge so lovely surprise…… basic breakfast but eggs cooked anyway you wish …… only thing that stopped a 5* review was that we were charged again after we left and chasing the refund …… shame as a lovely little hotel and very accommodating staff and owners

Small portions, food not exactly tasty and average service. Avoid if you can. Not surprised it’s on sale.

Unexplainable - turned away at 8.10pm with last food served 7.30pm. Only restaurant I've been to globally that closes at such a ridiculous hour. Complete waste of time.

We stopped for a night at Bluff after a beautiful drive from Te Anau and before heading on to Catlin Coast. Our room (and bed) looked directly out onto the ocean and was very well appointed. The ocean trawlers going back and forth at night under the flickering lighthouse were amazing to watch. We did the coastal walk and went up to lookout over 360 degree ocean and islands vista. Hosts were very friendly and helpful, and we walked over to restaurant for a terrific seafood platter and lovely breads, wines and beer. Buffet and cooked breakfast served in breakfast room was again very well done and with awesome ocean views. We will always remember Bluff in Southland New Zealand because of this lovely hotel and restaurant and its magnificent ocean location.

We had the Platter for Two. The famed Bluff Oysters were disappointing in this beautiful platter for two.(Out came the camera!) At the height of the Oyster Season Grade A oysters are expected and the Grade B smaller ones spoilt the dish.

We enjoyed our night at lands end. The room was immaculate and check in was easy and friendly. The view from our room, Jury Mast, to the point was amazing. It was worth being up at dawn for the ferry as the views were so good. We enjoyed sitting downstairs by the fire and the selection of loose leaf tea was a nice touch. The breakfast was generous, fresh and tasty. We found the bed and pillows a bit soft for our liking but we like a hard bed. They felt very luxurious. Hosts were very kind and helpful. Highly recommended

Stayed over New Year arriving on the 31st. Wasn't sure what to expect as we drove through Bluff which is not the finest town in South Island. Seen better days and dominated by the aluminium smelter. Turned the corner onto Sirling Point and its a different world. Great location.
You do feel close to the end of the world here. Next stop is def Antarctica. Great views across to Stewart Island and around the coast. Nice walks along the cliffs or 2 hour round trip to the lookout (well worth it) and a 25 min walk to the ferries for Stewart Island or a 10 minute drive.
Room was big enough, very well designed and presented, shower was good. Deep comfortable beds. Good ventilation. We were warned the locals would be out front to celebrate New Year, but didn't hear a thing. Breakfast was good and everyone was keen to help with our travel plans, trip to Stewart Island even checked to see if the smelter still did tours- not any more- shame. Great service. I managed to leave a power bank behind and they contacted us to see if we wanted it sent on.
Table in the restaurant was already booked for us for both nights we stayed inc New Year's Eve. Not really an evening place. Last orders at 7.30pm. Some of the best food we ate in our entire trip. Reasonable sized portions and food wasn't doused in sweet and salty sauces. Fine for vegetarians.
Would def go back. So why not a 5 star. Just the opening hours for the restaurant. Both hotel and restaurant access friendly. Ramps and level access a feature.

Welcomed by friendly staff. Went to room and found windows wide open as they were trying to air the room out. Previous people had put prawns in the fridge but did not tell us. Room stunk so we spent the night with heaps of blankets and windows open. Strike one. We then read the room guide to find out we were NOT ALLOWED ALCOHOL in the room, yes the text was bolded and capitalised. No previous warning of this when booking. Strike two. We went to log onto the internet....after several people attempting to help us no internet for our entire visit. Strike three. This should have been a 5/5 experience with the views being wonderful and the breakfast very nice. But lack of care and attention made it less than a great experience. Wonderful walks are possible from the hotel. Watch out for the tiny bathroom. Would visit the Bluff again but would not stay at Lands End. Could have spent the night spent the night sleeping in a car and been just as comfortable. Very sad 😔
