Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had afternoon tea. There was a good selection, sandwiches, scones, cakes but the quality was very average. The service was good.

Yesterday we took a group of 40 friends to Daltons Plantation Homestead and Cafe for a High Tea. The service was great and the outlook from the Homestead over the lovely gardens makes for a very picturesque setting. The High Tea was lovely from the fine China cups to the plentiful plates of delicious food which included savouries, scones, club sandwiches and sweet delights. Everyone had a wide choice of food and plenty of tea or coffee. We were given a detailed brochure on the gardens surrounding the Homestead and took the time to explore these prior to leaving. For anyone wanting to organise a High Tea for a group of people we would highly recommend Daltons on the edge of Matamata.

This is a lovley place and the food was good with some different foods offered than most of the cafes we have visited. But the service was terrible and our waitress rude. Gave her the benefit of the doubt until I went to pay and she was even ruder. Had visitors from the states and they couldn't believe our we were treated. Don't know if we will return.

We had an 80th birthday function and their function room has no soft furnishings so sounds reverberated and increased. With only 45 of us there it was deafening and everyone was yelling to talk. I think those with hearing aids turned them off!! On inspection we had noticed a screen dominating one wall and projector on the ceiling so went to considerable effort to put together a slide show - but they wanted an extra $200 on the night to use it. So we had this ugly blank screen backdrop and everyone peering at the laptop to see the photos. Considering we spent $3k there that night I thought that was OTT. The meal was lovely but the stingiest $45 buffet I have ever had. One mixed green, one mixed root vegetables and two meats which they ran out of. Desert was a served portion of cake - for anyone who wanted seconds we had a 3 tiered birthday cake !!. Disappointing for an event we really wanted special.

Gorgeous gardens but inconsistent food quality has been the downfall of this place. Fabulous gardens with interesting zones to explore but a lot of road noise too being very close to a major highway.

Our Group booked to do a guided tour of Daltons Gradens& compost production. We arrived to find we were given a map & had to do the garden tour by ourselves. Thre were no signs to follow to see all the separate gardens & the only garden descriptions were on the brochure.A guided garden tour was only available if you booked lunch or morning tea. The cafe was not open.

We recently had a family celebration at Daltons. The whole day was wonderful - amazing venue with lots of different parts of the garden for everyone to explore - amazing food - and very helpful friendly staff. A perfect choice for families with children with lots of space outside to run around. Thank you Judith and your staff - we loved it.

Went here for our Christmas function. For the price paid the food choice was very limited. Paid $47 to have one bread roll, one cold salad, one mixed vegie two hot meats and one one dessert option. Not even a cup of tea or coffee was included. Prior to the evening the communication with the owners was very poor on her part, plus on the night one of the meat options was ham when we has requested lamb. Will not go there again

It was a lovely place but our waitress was rude. Tried several times to be kind to her but wouldn't even smile. Food was good but coffee's were luke warm.

As a team of 20 we used the facility for a business workshop during the day. Lovely friendly staff, good coffees, lovely fresh scones -savoury & sweet, for morning tea and a fresh cooked ham with salad trimmings for lunch.

A new family favourite, great atmosphere to enjoy friends and families. Our hostess made us feel very welcomed and when we requested a change to the kids menu it was no trouble at all. Although it was the middle of winter the grounds and gardens were still looking amazing- can't wait to return in mid Spring.

I was a bridesmaid at a wedding held at Daltons Plantation Homestead and Cafe. Although the grounds were lovely I was disappointed that the lawns were not mowed which was requested by the bride. The lawn was used as the aisle for the wedding party to walk down and it was also used for lawn games. As you could imagine long grass is not ideal for either of these activities. There were a few minor details that the needed changing within the event space and also in the grounds itself. Upon asking the staff to remedy these issues they were rather rude and unhelpful, not ideal when you are trying to keep things running smoothly for the bride. I also know there were some issues with the planning of the event as management were hard to get in touch with and also provided incorrect information to the bride. Dinner redeemed the venue slightly with the food being well presented and tasted great. The wait staff were also friendly, although I did notice that there was a long wait for some tables. Overall I think if you were to come just for a meal and to enjoy the gardens you would have a lovely experience. I would not recommend this as an event venue for large functions.

I'd been wanting to visit this place for ages and popped in for morning tea while I was in Matamata recently. The service was lovely as was the ambience with gorgeous gardens. A group of us had coffee and cakes and each cake was presented beautifully and tasted just as good. The coffee was good too. We enjoyed a quick game of croquet while we waited for our order so that was a bit of fun too.

Another one of my favourites. Presented beautifully with landscape gardens professionally cared for. Indoor and alfresco dining. can cater large numbers or solo dining. Toilets are very clean. Food home-made, fresh and scrumptious menu. Upstairs has an extra room for private smaller gatherings. Downstairs larger more open.I love the coffee here my choice a latte.

Not sure if this Cafe has changed hands as I hadn't been for 2 years. Food presented did not correspond with menu description. Gardens are very run down and in need of a complete overhaul.
