Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stopped here just because we liked the name. They had a great choice of lunch items, I had the egg and bacon pie which was just like a quiche, and my wife had what seemed like a giant samosa. Both dishes were very tasty and great value for money. The service was all excellent.

We came here for lunch and dinner, because we knew the Café from a few years ago. They have a great variety of food. Lunch was nice, especially the berry cheesecake and the coffees. For dinner we had a pizza and salad, and we asked our friendly waitress, if we could have garlic on our pizzas. She went to check with the chef. He said 'no' because he is too busy. There were only a few people in the restaurant with us. We accepted the no and ordered. After the 'no' had sunk in on us, my husband went to the counter and tried again, as putting garlic on 2 pizzas is not a big deal. He got a no again, Chef doesn't have time to chop up garlic and roast it and put it on pizza. How pathetic! It could have been squeezed over or chopped and sprinkled over, no roasting needed no big deal. We've never experienced this from a chef, but that's how it was. The pizza was ok nonetheless.

We looked for a place to eat near Takaka and Dangerous kitchen came out as the first choice. We had to wait for almost an hour (it was saturday at peak time), but it was worth it. The service was really very good, as the quality of the food for every dish we ordered. Definetively recommend, and we already came back!

Went to Dangerous Kitchen during a weekday evening service. Looked promising from the outside, lots of diners but not by any means full. We’re seated and given menus very quickly but from then on the bottom dropped out of the service.
We were left alone in full view of the front of house team whilst diners arriving after us had their orders taken and, in some cases, actually received their meals.
Had to give in and interrupt one of the three front of house people and beg their attention to taking the order. Further extensive delay waiting for simple pizza and pasta and was on the cusp of giving up and walking out when they arrived with they finally arrived with ‘appetiser.

My father, brother-in-law and I had a meal at DK prior to exploring the back country and had good pizza (if pricey) and very good service.
After our adventure, we returned to try some other food options and have some beers. Service the second time was polite, if more cursory (different staff), until I paid the bill.
During our meal, I ordered a sour beer, which was on the drinks menu for $9.5. The staff member told me that they didn’t have that option in stock but did have a bigger version for $15. I said ok. The beer came out (can) and I checked it against the menu. It was the menu item.
I let the staff member know and they said they weren’t aware and would inform the manager about the menu ‘mistake’. When I paid the bill, I was charged $15. I queried this and the staff member told me “I told you it was $15…we can’t get new menus out tonight”.
For the sake of $5.5 in the till, I wonder if it was worth leaving a sourer taste in the customer’s mouth than the beer was able to?

Definitely the worst experience in the South Island. No service. Rude staff. Staff turned their backs on our family when we came in and didn’t even bring out menus. We were totally ignored while others were served.

We stopped in for dinner and ended up having the Popeye and the Vegan Pizzas. Both were excellent, and I am a very picky eater. It was especially nice to see a vegan pizza and other vegan dishes on their main menu. We sat outside as that is what we prefer in this world of Covid 19, even though the virus is not prevalent in NZ. Although the restaurant was hopping busy, the service was top notch and we got our pizza very quickly.. One regret... I did not have room for dessert. And they even have homemade vegan desserts! We are in the area for a while and will be back multiple times, that I am sure of. Well done Dangerous Kitchen!

We initially stopped here for a takeaway coffee on our way round to the national park. Loved the coffee so it made us go back for food later the same day. Sadly, the food wasn't anything spectacular. We had the venison pie and sausage roll from the food counter and a portion of chips. Chips needed more colour and the pie/roll was flavourless. it filled a hole as we would say. Staff were friendly and the courtyard out back was a beautiful sun trap. We would return again but just for the coffee and maybe a slice.

Just had a very disappointing meal at the Dangerous cafe. The pizza base on the pizza I had was really tough and difficult to cut through. One of the worst pizza's I have ever had. My wife had the pasta which was overly dry and tasteless.
If your thinking about going there for a meal, just don't.

Very friendly and efficient service. The pizzas are awesome, we ordered 2 medium pizzas and such lovely thin crust bases with delicious and plentiful toppings. There was a little too much cheese on the one pizza but was still really good. The smoked salmon was delicious and so nice to see a lot of it too. Great selection of drinks too. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back and will certainly do so if we are in the area again. Also must mention that they do great coffee and cakes too.

We visited twice. First time we ordered one Jack fruit vegan pizza & one black bean vegan pizza. LOVED the Jackfruit one. The Black bean one was certainly ok, but we found it bland. Second time we just got the Jackfruit one. Delicious again. Nice place. The best pizza I have had in ages. They had vegan cake too, but could not fit it. So thrilled that their ladies room did not stink of toxic air fresheners: so rare these days. We’ll be back. 👍🏼👍🏼

Another cafe was recommended to me. However, as it was getting on in the afternoon when I arrived in Takaka, that cafe was closed, so I visited DANGEROUS kitchen and purchased a delicious slice of pizza (with a chunk of globe artichoke on top... which I adore) and a savoury muffin. The pizza was fantastic, the muffin a little dry. Overall, a nice experience and for a minimal cost of $12.00.

We atr here for lunch and dinner. Limited menu unless you like pizza). The lunch offerings were great but dinner was a little limited for a person with diet restrictions. Great staff and very dog friendly.
