Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We walked into this restaurant with a bottle of wine and one of spirits. The hostess walked out briskly and barked 'we're not byo' - a simple sorry in front of the statement would have softened it so much and made her seem a lot less aggressive. We replied its ok we wont open them and we sat ourselves at a table. We ordered and got a couple of beers. I had a chicken and bacon burger which was tasty and the fries were good but I wouldn't eat there again - sour taste in my mouth from the rude welcome.

Teenager had nachos which she indicated were fine. I had the bacon wrapped scallop salad that totally lacked any hint of citrus flavour per the menu and the scallops were tiny and rubbery which was disappointing.
Hint - Take insect repellant if you sit near the doors. Our feet got totally marauded.

Called in here for lunch when we were on a tiki-tour around the Waikato/Thames Valley in late July. There was me and hubby, plus my brother and my sister.
Three of us chose our meals off the menu, my brother chose a peach slice from the cabinet.
The three of us all had burgers. Hubby and I had the Horseman’s burger which had two beef patties, and my sister had the Lipsey burger.
All the food was nice, but to be honest the Horseman’s burger could have done with just one beef patty, it didn’t really need two. The Lipsey burger had chicken, bacon, camembert and onion along with the usual salads and sauces.
We sat inside, just by the door as we’re trying to avoid being too close to others at the moment. There were some outside tables but we decided it was a bit cold for being outside so we compromised. Service was okay. You order at the counter after you’ve perused the menu at your table. They were a bit slow bringing out the little saucer with whipped cream to go with my brother’s peach slice, but to be fair he started eating it as soon as it arrived so they had probably figured he wouldn’t eat it till our burgers had arrived.
Didn’t use the bathrooms so not sure what they are like.
Would we go back? Probably ,though it’s very rare for us to be in Te Aroha at meal times.

Visiting our daughter and husband for the weekend. Popped in here for brunch before heading home. Husband and I had the cheese scone, perfect and the kids had big breakfast ( I think that was its name) perfect, lots of bacon and the homemade hashbrowns looked delicious. We Will come back and try one of your salads next time we visit, they read beautifully. The staff were all polite, friendly and very helpful.

Started with beautiful garlic and cheese bread ,For the main I had the chicken schnitzel which was one of the best Meals I have ever had it was beautiful, proportions Perfect , tasty and as per request added some stunning mushrooms .This meal was better than a high end restaurant in Auckland. My husband was equally impressed with the pork belly he had.
Then to finish off apple strudel with ice cream and cream again good serving size.
With a selection of great wine to go with our meal
Value for money ++ for decent serving size
Staff excellent
Keep it up ironigue.

I live an easy walk to this place, but have avoided going back. I eat out most weeks, but like a cup of tea afterwards. They have the same bad cups, same bad pots, still mean with the lonely tea bag in the pot! And they want you to drink your tea before you eat, even after you explain 'not yet, it goes cold' . Family suggested they might have listened to the customers and upgraded. They have lost my custom, I tell all the visitors go elswhere.

Sept 2024 • friends
I meet up with two girlfriends from our school days at Morrinsville College (which are now many decades ago) when it works out for us as we all live in different parts of the country, though I’m furthest away in Lower Hutt. We try to meet somewhere around Morrinsville/Te Aroha.
I was up north in mid-ish September, and we decided to meet at Ironique, in the main street of Te Aroha, by the clock tower.
One of my girlfriends has a significant birthday in a week or two after our get-together so I arranged with the café that we would bring a cake and for a small cakeage fee they would serve it with candles blazing!
We met up at 11am and had coffees then around 12.45pm we decided we’d better order lunch.
I had the beef burger (called “The Old Hardy Hut”) and one of my friends had the Lipsey burger, which was a chicken and bacon burger. Both were really lovely, and the fries were some of the best I’ve ever had. My other friend had Eggs Benedict, which she declared very nice.
We had another drink with lunch, including “Lemon and Te Aroha” which was very nice.
After we’d finished our lunch the lovely staff brought out the cake, indeed the candles did blaze!!
We had a wonderful time. The service was excellent, the food very tasty, and the venue excellent. We sat outside in the entrance alcove between the footpath and the entrance. It was under cover but we were in the fresh air. There are toilets available for use if needed also.
A big thank you to Fiona and Bella, and also the chef and other staff, for making our get together extra special. Even though we were there for four hours, we were never made to feel like we should move on. We did reluctantly leave when the café closed, at 3pm, but of course we knew the closing time.

Worth visiting for the extraordinary design and Artwork by Adrian Worsley. Five stars for the venue. The coffee had much to be desired. My trim flat white was luke warm, tasteless and the cup half full of muddy froth. Could just be a bad day for the barista but at $5 per cup… not worth the risk.

It's a fairly central meeting place, with varying standards of service, dependent on when you might go.
In general, it's OK, but on a bad day, you might wish you'd gone elsewhere.
An annoying thing is that the local council seem to have morning client meetings in the side room among other diners. You can hear everything (private stuff) being discussed. Council - clueless. For Ironique patrons, unfortunate.

We had a lunch here a couple of months ago, meeting up with two of my school friends. We had planned the same for early November, but on the morning of our lunch one of my friends had tested positive for Covid, so that was that.
Hubby and I called into the cafe and advised we had to cancel our lunch, but we had a sit-down coffee for morning tea. We decided to buy some take away lunch with us to have later in the day.
I chose a cheese scone and a piece of yogurt lemon cake. Hubby chose a date scone and a piece of ginger slice. The lady who took our order happily buttered the scones for us.
We ended up driving up the Thames Coast, and ate our lunch at a rest area at Waioumu. We enjoyed our lunch. The cheese scone was very cheesey (just how I like it) and the lemon cake was very moist and tasty. Hubby enjoyed his lunch too.
We will be back when we can (we're from Wellington) for another dine-in lunch with my school friends.

Nice food at a fairly good price, just walk in off the street.
As I often find myself saying, it's the people that make the difference.
To compliment the trendy decor and good food, perhaps the staff could put a little more effort into the experience.

A cosy meal on a windy cold night. Whist we went as a couple. I would of liked to sit at a two person table for more intimacy. Mostly four person tables. Nice evening lighting, not too bright. Big portions and great to share. I feel the music was nice but maybe a bit too casual for evening service. Servers were friendly and I loved that they mentioned their favourite dish.

Visited Ironique for lunch, we had a chicken and bacon burger which was very good. The large portion meant that we could have easily shared a meal. The mocha coffee drink was lovely. There is plenty of seating both inside and out. The friendly service means we will be back.

Friendly helpful staff. Came here for a family lunch just before Christmas and we all enjoyed the food. I had chorizo hash with a poached egg. Generous serving with lots of chorizo. The flat white coffee had a nice flavour however it wasn't strong enough for me. As a Wellingtonian I am used to stronger coffee. Would definitely go there again to try the other offerings on the menu.
