Ciriaco, our waiter was amazing. So kind and informative! The food at La Cantina was incredible, with extra special appetizers. Ciriaco explained what region the food was from and why each ingredient was important. There were even ladies in the middle of the restaurant making fresh tortillas! This was the best service we’ve received at Hotel Xcaret so far and the food was excellent!

Always on the quest for unique Mexican food. Look no further.
Their Bar Chef cocktails are so unique & delicious I had two! Fiancé was thrilled with his margaritas. The Katrina (served in a dia de los muertos vessel !!) and Ik Habanero are delicious.
Consider yourself very fortunate if Ezekiel (spelling?) is your server. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Truly one of the best.
Authentic cuisine. We ate so much! Short rib, ceviche, fundido, “sopes”bone marrow, Chile stuffed with veggies. Yes…only 2 of us!! And unique homemade chips with 5 salsas greeted us when we sat down!
Such reasonable prices. We were so full we couldn’t order dessert. Did enjoy one of the most beautiful cappuccino though!
Armel, the manager, introduced himself and stoped by our table to ask how our meal was- always a great touch and so genuinely nice.

So… we had been to most of the other restaurants in this resort. Thought we would do Mexican for our last night. While the setting was lovely the food was disappointing. Over priced and not very good at all. I did read reviews before our reservations and they were mixed. Should have erred on the way of dissatisfaction.

Our waiter Jorge was the best. I was undecided about what to order and he recommended a drink and food, and both were spot on. He was also very friendly and attentive. The shrimp casserole was spicy and flavorful without being to hot. The rib eye tacos that my husband ordered were tasty as well.

Along side of Azur, this has to be one of the best restaurants on the Vidante resort property. Good selection of mezcals, tableside mixology and excellent menu. Walls covered with big screen tvs featuring a variety of music...from disco to rap. A few screaming babies....but it is a resort and you can't leave them home alone.

La Cantina is a great restaurant in the new section of Vidanta resort. The food is fresh and the drinks are strong. The bar cart with bartender comes around and makes the drinks fresh for you. The frozen margarita uses liquid nitrogen instead of ice, so it's not watered down - it's really good, but strong! The fajitas are very good, tasty and fresh. Grilled octopus is also really good.

It would be one of our last nights in Mexico and we had not yet dined at La Cantina. The timing would be perfect. With great reviews, we saved the best for last night. The steak fajitas sounded so good. In a word, they were disappointing. The plate was filled with large onions but there was steak -- steak that was stringy and tough and almost impossible to eat. The dessert sounded so wonderful but looked like something that had been in the grocer's freezer for too long. It was a huge disappointment.

Surprised there arent more reviews as this seems to be a popular reservation-only restaurant in Salum. Probably because it is a small place (about 20 tables?) and with Salum being relatively new. While staying at The Grand Mayan, I used the Vidanta app to reserve a table for the Friday during our stay but on other days the only times available were either 5:30 or 9, so plan ahead. The meal itself was excellent. We started with the shrimp appetizer as well as the guacamole, both delicious. I had the steak fajita and my wife had a mahi mahi special with a tasty side of rice, peppers and cheese. The kids were fine with quesadillas. Many choices for desserts but we went with the raspberry sorbet as a beautiful finish to the meal. Minor quibbles - it was cool inside so bring a wrap or light sweatshirt, they have large tv screens that play music videos a little loudly for my tastes, and the mixologist drinks were overpriced (the signature margarita is concoted with a foaming dry ice and my wife didn’t even finish it), kind of par for the course. But all in all really enjoyed a quality family meal and on the Vidanta property was the best option for Mexican food.

Our family of six enjoyed a delicious dinner at La Cantina. We began with an excellent tequila tasting ... we chose 3 of 5 tequilas offered ... 2 anejos and 1 extra anejo. Wow, they were all delicious. Then came the tableside prepared guacamole. Finally, the fajitas which were also amazing. Overall, a very pleasurable dining experience.

My review is of La Cantina at Vidante.
My family of thirteen people enjoyed an exceptional meal, better than any top Mexican New York restaurant at Vidante La Cantina.
it was made exceptional by an exceptional waiter Christian.
Christian offered superb service together with amazing food. Christian you are what this hotel and restaurant is all about.
Our first night Rudolfo the maitre’d d gave us a very warm welcome.
Four nights later due to the delicious food and good service we booked to go back, this time nine people.
What a let down. it was torrential rains, and we still all including some young kids, made an effort to get there for the only time that was offered and available, Five thirty pm.
Upon arriving there was not one person other than us in the restaurant. we were told by the same maitre’d d who had been so welcoming a few nights before, that we would have to be seated at two tables.
I answered but there is not one person in the restaurant and empty large tables. no effort was made to seat us together.
During the meal still nobody else in the restaurant I went and told him how annoyed I was and five minutes later the host said ok you can sit at a large table together. Half way through the meal we were moved. our whole family was annoyed and upset.
With a bill over three hundred dollars both nights, I would say Christian you are what makes this restaurant, a professional waiter but the maitre’d has a lot to learn.
guacamole was exceptional, as was tortilla soup, and fajitas
