Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What an amazing experience. A lovely, inviting atmosphere with equally lovely, inviting hosts. Our meals were delicious and the wine recommendations spot on. We will be coming back again soon!

Down Thyme being a hidden gym for a wonderful dining experience from the service right through to the flavor of the food which was outstanding. Mufide and Roland both came and spoke to us which made our experience more personal they are such lovely friendly...people. Our waitress was so attentive and very friendly as well. We would highly recommend the food was outstanding such beautiful flavor and presented so well. We had a beautiful Valentines Dinner I would have to say one of the best dining experiences we have had. We will come back again if we are in the area - we wish Mufide and Roland all the best Thanks so much. Bernadette & Howard.More

We had 2 nights glamping in Waihi and went to Down Thyme on the second night as it had so many gluten-free options on the menu (which is a rare treat for me). The food was amazing, the service was friendly and quick and we...had a lovely chat to the chef before we left. A very happy experience and one we would be repeating often if we lived closerMore

We had a recommendation from our air bnb in Katikati of Down Thyme being a hidden gem for dining. It couldn't have been more true! It is a complete dining experience from the service right through to the flavour in the food. Roland and Mufide...both came and spoke to us, gave amazing recommendations and chatted to make our experience personal. The food was amazing, and authentic. We would highly recommend, will come back if we are ever back in the area - and wish Roland and Mufide all the best. Thankyou so much!More

What a romantic evening in a beautiful setting! We had a three course meal with Turkish coffee to finish and loved every part of it. The servings are huge and great value. It is clear that this establishment is a labour of love, and I...was sad to hear that the husband and wife couple who have run the restaurant for many years will soon be passing it on. I would highly recommend. Thank you for one of my favourite meal experiences in NZ.More

A local recommended we stop for lunch. What a beautiful spot and an utterly charming ambience. It is. Husband and wife team and it looks like they are selling the place after many years. The place had several locals who seemed regulars. The burger was...very flavorful. The special of the day, seafood cakes, was pretty good. The chicken and beef sheesh plates were also a hit. The Turkish flavors come through in the meat, and the touch of German in the salad. The freshly made lemonade was lovely on a warm day.More

We had an early dinner at Down Thyme today and it was superb. Their standards are high and we could tell that our meal was made from scratch with great care. Service was first class too. We thoroughly recommend it.

Came here on a cold Saturday night, however as soon as stepping into Down Thyme the warmth in every respect was there. Wonderful food, shared the platter, such an excellent way to savour all the different meats and accompaniments which were delicious. A great choice...of wine by the glass which was perfect for this style of food- Gewurtz, riesling, and reds. A family run place so friendly, and although we were the last to leave never felt hurried. A wonderful evening.More

I cannot say enough about this place. This is a must visit if you are in the area. We were driving through on our way back to Auckland and found it on google. I feel so lucky to have found this gem. The hospitality and...service alone was 10 stars. The owner/chef was a one man show and left us in awe. I wish i could put him in my pocket and bring him to America with me. The food was absolutely excellent. Everything was made from scratch and made to order. We are not staying in the area otherwise i would go there again tomorrow for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I hope that someday I can make my way back to NZ and eat there once again.More

We stumbled upon this special restaurant while overnighting in Waihi. The food is lovely with a mediteranean flavour- as is the setting -the staff genuine and welcoming, the owner a delight....Would recommend to anyone ! Enjoyed the licorice tower, soup and kebabs...as well as a...great burger and chunky homemade fries 10/10 :-)More

A gréât find on our journey north. Delicious Mediterranean dishes and a great chilled vibe. We shared a dip platter and skewers and then topped it off with a fab Turkish coffee and desserts. Love that everything is made locally. The service was really good...and the chef’s visit to our table a delight!More
