here's a surprise hidden away in Waihi. Authentic Turkish cuisine that will challenge any other Turkish offering. Hosted and served by a deligtful owner couple (Roland and Murfide) . True to their statement they serve quality food in an authentic style . it was a...memorable experience and highly recommended.More
The true gold in Wahi, in an idyllic setting. Fresh flowers on the table and a warm welcome.
Consistently perfect, Roland the Chef/owner has such depth and experience; it is always a pleasure to dine with him and his team. The food is pleasing to...the eye and pallette, exceptionally prepared. A curated, matched drinks menu ties it all together.
Absolutely order at least one of the in-house created desserts...two if like me it's impossible to choose.More
I would love to wax lyrical about this place as others have and obviously wanting so much to support the small eateries, so perhaps I was expecting too much when we dined recently. The egg burger was a grey mix of egg and veges- no...beetroot dip/ tomatoes or red onion rings to be seen but then I suppose they might have run out of ingredients but for $21.50 I could have done better to have supported the local takeaways. My husbands Moroccan shish was good but for $38.50 we get better food at our local kebab shop so this was so sad to see overpricing happening.
The owners are lovely so I suppose you are paying more for the cheerfulness and kindly welcome but do not expect fine dining otherwise you might be disappointed at the quality of food and the prices commanded.
Nevertheless we felt it was important to support the local eateries during Covid times.More
Such a beautiful meal and the couple that own the restaurant are lovely! The stand out was the lamb on the platter for 2 that we loved. Also the licorice tower was to die for. 5 stars! Thanks again, Justin and Zin
I can’t believe I missed out on Down Thyme all these years! I have been travelling around the country for work frequently and it’s never been an easy task to find quality food that is also varied. Down Thyme hits the spot in several aspects:...well balanced dishes, very high quality, top service and a very diverse menu with plenty of tastes to surprise any discerning guest.
Now that I experienced it, I definitely be back many times to come..More
Visited Down Thyme while on holiday with 2 families.
Food was fresh, all made on site, and was incredibly tasty.
The service was perfect and the restaurant made you feel like you were actually in the Mediterranean.
The ambiance is cool and relaxed.
the hosting and service was welcoming. We were attended to in a friendly inobtrusive style with well timed breaks between courses
The menu is varied and caters to a very wide range of tastes
We thoroughly enjoyed our three...courses. They were beautifully presented, and a delight to eat.
We couldn't have been happier.
Special thanks to Roland and MufideMore
What a meal! I had scallops with salad - the scallops were melt-in-your-mouth delicious in a delectable sauce, and the astonishingly varied salad was fresh from the Down Thyme garden, and perfect. My friend had falafels, and loved her meal - the falafels were crisp...on the outside, soft in the centre, spiced to perfection. Then ...
We ordered Licorice Towers for dessert! Licorice icecream drizzled with licorice liqueur and topped with softly whipped cream. Taste explosion, so intense and delicious that we both spent quite a while trying to scoop the last tiny drops out of the bottom of the glass.
All of this was provided with warm hospitality in a gorgeous environment. This was not just a meal, it was a memorable experience. Thank you Chef and Chefette!More
