Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a lovely wine tasting with Jilly as part of a work function. She was super friendly and informative. We’ll definitely be coming back to do it again and to try lunch! Thank you Jilly!

We stopped in on our way back to Christchurch and were lucky enough to get a table for 2. Bookings are recommended. The setting is lovely, the service is really good, absolutely lovely staff. The food is also really good. I had the falafel main,...and my husband had the steak sandwich, both of which we enjoyed. The rating is because their wine is not vegan friendly, which is disappointing. They can provide a sparkling rose for vegans, but that's it.More

We visited without a booking on route for lunch. The house platter suited us perfectly A great mix of breads and crackers with Terrine cheeses and chutneys The glazed walnuts were a hit. The Rose wine was delicious and service was quick and professional.

Probably one of the best lunches we have had, we were welcomed as soon as we walked in and taken to our table. Restaurant staff x2 were really friendly, and did well to serve all people that were there. We had the garlic bread to...start which was delicious, then my husband had a steak sandwich, which was huge and the steak just melted in his mouth, and i had an entree size of venison which was beautiful, may just of been a little over cooked, then we shared the tasting dessert which was lovely. Thanks guys it was all lovelyMore

Very nice winery - came on a a very hot day and the shade umbrellas were inadequate for a table of 5. My cousin's husband took the chance on annexing the neighbouring table's umbrella and we were in luck - though the place was booked...out nobody came there. I had a very nice house platter and my good friend had an agreeably pleasant fish platter. Good citrous medley deserts. Nice wine though cousin's husband found the pinot noir rather ordinary. Good service given that long waits were necessary with a large hen party table - or two. These were a distance from us so we weren't disturbed. The one false note was the small pond in the middle of the terrace, I walked straight into it as my field of vision was directed towards the tables and the pretty hilly North Canterbury landscape. I was told other people had fallen into it to. I hasten to say that this happened on arrival and I had no alcohol in my system. While I was very wet, fortunately I wasn't hurt at all - but others may not be so lucky. I do thing it would be wise to remind visitors to avoid the pond - or else relocate it elsewhere in the winery in a less arterial position. It's definitely the sort of place I will go back to, the other things were so good, but I'll be wary of the pond in the future!More

Excellent restaurant in Waipara. Stunning building with great shady outside dining options. I really like the choice on the menu particularly how you can choose an entree or main size. Desserts were yummy. Excellent Waipara Hills wines by the glass. Excellent service. Free parking at...the door.More

What a great place - the owners were really helpful to deal with so we had a nice table for my parents in their 80s celebrating a 60th wedding anniversary. Service was great, food was lovely and extremely well priced. Wine was great too. Highly...recommend for a special, but not overpriced meal.More

By far the best eating experience we have had so far in all of Canterbury. Beats all the restaurants we have tried in Christchurch city. Service was great and value for money was excellent.

Whether you sit in or out, the ambiance is hard to beat. The food, and particularly the platter, was scrumptious and the excellent wine was generously poured by a very pleasant server. It was a wonderful experience. I must say that we had a very...helpful and friendly wine tasting before going to lunch. The lady was very engaging and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.More

Stopped in on a whim due to the beautiful location and setup of the winery. Gilly lead us through a delightful wine tasting, with complimentary tastings included. Gilly and her team mate were both helpful and thoughtful in providing local recommendations and knowledge. Unfortunately we...arrived quite late in the day but would love to return for lunch! My wife and I visited Waipara Hills for lunch on Thursday 9 January 2020. It was a lovely day and our experience (third or fourth time here) was again first class. Our table was out of the sun as requested, the service was excellent and...the shared platter was superb as were the accompanying wines. We loved our experience at Waipara Hills and we will be back for sure. Highly recommend this as a destination. The menu is more 'real' than some of their nearby competitors who have (in my opinion) gone over the top with exotic dishes not suited for the staid Kiwi palate and priced exorbitantly too. The menu at Waipara Hills offers a range of good wholesome foods and some more exotic options for those more adventuous than us!More
