My partner and I had a really brilliant day in Pegasus Bay. We had some delightful wine and sat out in the garden enjoying the sunshine, some NZ wine books and backgammon. Then we fed the eels in the beautiful oriental garden. Then the showstopper...was wine tasting with Nicky. She was so knowledgeable about all the delicious wines on offer and great fun. It was a real trip highlight- thank you!More

First time at this beautiful setting for many years, and it was just as great as we remembered. Sitting outside on a sunny day with 6 adults, a 3 year old, and two infants in prams, we were very well looked after with a suitably...located table, extra sun umbrella, and continuous top class service. Outside is delightful, but the building is equally worthy and don't be put of if the weather isn't as good as they urned on for us. Seriously, if you haven't tried this place, even if it's a long drive, you should make the effort. Few restaurants in NZ surpass Pegasus Bay for the whole package - setting, food, service, and of course the wine tasting - before and during! Make sure you book, as we're not the only fans this restaurant has. Just an add-on - have you ever felt a bit, I dunno, something, when you say thank you to a person serving you and get a response of "no worries"? I find it even worse when it's "that's all right". I know both are acknowledging your appreciation for their service, but do they suggest the person really cares? How about "my pleasure"? Or even "it's my total pleasure" as I got at Pegasus Bay :-)More

I think 'a died and went to heaven'! What an experience I will never forget so pleased we detoured off on our way to Christchurch. I did the tasting first & for the first time in years enjoyed the Reisling, normally a red wine drinker....The lady serving (Heike?) was amazing, she definitely knew the wines. We were extremely lucky to get a table for lunch. Cameo, our waitress was extremely professional plus treating us like we were her top priority. The food was delicious, my tastebuds have never had such a workout with the incredible combinations. We were given a couple of complimentary dishes to try so unexpectedly. Pegasus Bay Winery is a stunning location with huge grounds. A 'must-do'!More

We had lunch here as a group and ordered a varied selection from the menu. The food here is really great and we were served by Rose, a lovely lady who took care of us and explained the menu to us very well. Thoroughly enjoyed our delicious meal and herewith is what we had- Entree -Game fish crudo, elderflower verjuice, avocado, ice plant -Charcuterie, pickles, mustard, grilled sourdough -Warm mixed olives Main course -Line caught fish, bbq asparagus, smoked potato, oyster creme, cured hen yolk - Organic pumpkin pine nut tortellini, seeds, fresh sheep curd, sorrel - Harris beef bone in rib eye, dry aged, red wine sauce Sides - Asparagus, pomegranate molasses -Organic leaf salad -Organic pumpkin, balsamic, burnt butter. Definitely do not miss to take some time to walk around in the beautiful gardens as well and enjoy the fresh air after meal.More

Wonderful winery lunch. The setting was lovely and the food was beautiful and delicious. We had the charcuterie platter and my husband had the lamb. They even served us an amuse bouche. Highly recommended!

Fantastic place for lunch on a lovely day. Outdoor seating not close to other tables. Lovely surroundings. The menu is interesting with some unusual choices. Always good to do a wine tasting first so you know what you want to drink. Complementary bread and aperitif...before our shared starter arrived followed by main course. Food is good and it’s expensive. Wine is expensive too. Great place for special friends and special occasionsMore

I think this must have been the most beautiful winery I've visited. Their garden in the summer was just so pretty with all the flowers in full bloom. Did wine tasting as well, and I love all their wines especially pinot noir and sauvignon blanc....The outdoor dining area was so picturesque. Reason for 4 stars is I think they are understaffed. After we ordered, we waited almost an hr before our appetizer came, one full hour! That's just unheard of. The food and wine make up for the wait though, really good food. Make sure to reserve as we saw a lot of people got turned down as the place was fully booked.More

I love Waipara wines. Many are now charging for wine tasting and some will sell at cellar door without offering a tasting at all. Pegasus Bay has great wines, especially Reisling. Late harvest, Merlot and Pinot Noir. They don’t charge for tastings. Great place to...buy wine. Nice restaurant too but I was too late to get a reservation.More

We went as a group of 20 workmates for a wine tasting and lunch and had such a great time. The setting is gorgeous, lovely gardens with beautiful flowers and sculptures. We were directed in to the wine tasting room and enjoyed trying the different...varieties offered. The lovely lady was very focussed on giving us the level of education we wanted, I got the sense that she was happy for us just to try the wines but mostly be chatting with our friends, or she was prepared to do a full wine education session. As we were to find out, Pegasus Bay is very focussed on pleasing their clients. After this we went upstairs and were served the set menu. It was scrumptious! Amazing platters with something for everyone. Delicious lamb, fish and pork dishes and seasonal vegetables. All accompanied by amazing wines of course. Then we went downstairs and wandered around the garden before returning for desserts and then tea and coffee. What struck me about our experience was the outstanding staff. Very friendly, low-key and helpful, it felt like they were pleased we were there and wanted us to have a great time. We all agreed this was our best work-do ever!More

We have regularly visited Pegasus Bay Winery and Restaurant now for over 15 years, tasted numerous vintages and sampled the fate of many chefs. We are avid foodies and travel internationally just to experience the best foods spots that deliver a wow factor. Pegasus Bay...has had some outstanding chefs along the way and a couple that have been ‘just great” but not outstanding. The current chef and team have delivered some of the finest food that we have ever experienced on an international level. We have sampled just about every dish on the menu over the last six months, although it constantly changes with season and fresh produce, and have been left wanting more. I have recommended this fine establishment to many a traveler as a must visit place in NZ but especially those who are looking for a wow factor! This is my thoughts on the food, the wine however.......it’s in exactly the same boat and not sure on how they keep making a wine better than one that was already outstanding. We had the absolute pleasure of tasting some of the new unreleased (about to be) vintages and totally keep your ears and eyes open for these! Especially the 2016 Maestro!More

Wow! I wasn’t expecting that! Visiting from Marlborough and went for lunch on a Monday. I’m glad my wife and I booked, because Pegasus Bay were booked out, and deservedly so. We both had a beautiful venison tartare with eel (+ a million other amazing...flavours) as a starter. My wife had a lovely juicy hapuka dish, which looked beautiful (and apparently tasted as good as it looked-she doesn’t share) I had the short rib which was a heavy dish but beautifully balanced with the sauces and light vegetables that went with it. And, the wine matches were perfect! To top it all, great service (thanks Jess!) and beautiful gardens. We’ll be back.More

We had a spectacular late lunch and enjoyed everything! we started off with bread and the most incredible burnt miso butter - it was even better than the black truffle butter! just wow! followed by a light pasta dish to share and it was very...flavoursome! (Organic pumpkin pine nut tortellini, seeds, fresh sheep's curd, preserved lemon, sorrel) we ordered the slow cooked lamb necks to share for our main and it was both enourmous and melted in your mouth! (Salt baked Cut of Stoneyhurst lamb, smoked swede, salsa verde, NZ spinach) The Yams/carrot side (Organic yams, balsamic, burnt butter, nutmeg, fennel) was great too! and the left over lamb made for incredible lamb burgers on the mountain the following day while snowboarding! lastly, dessert was impeccably presented and tasted brilliant! (Bitter chocolate coffee terrine, banana, peanut caramel ice cream) Service was devine , as was the location/gardens - and the wines were amazing!! i was really impressed with the Reislings and the Merlot/Cab 2016!More
