Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A brief visit down here in work time was worthwhile. As a support worker I came down with a client who helped pick some raspberries....something neither of us had done in many of years. Being allowed to eat as you pick was a bonus too....so we made sure we ate plenty. The raspberries were easily picked and in abundance. A fresh fruit ice cream at end of picking finished our time off beautifully

We had the scone, jam and cream dish at Butler's and it was absolutely delicious. This allows you to try before you buy their delicious jams to take home when you leave. The kind owner even gave us some free jam simply because we helped him lift the ice cream machine into place.

Super Berry Affair with good atmosphere. Pity you got some negative comments online. We had a fabulous time and would go again. Good range of stalls. The cafe food was quite expensive and it would have been good to have had our savoury loaves heated. Delicious food.

We arrived at 1pm, place was empty which should have served as a warning.Thecabinet of food for purchase was almost empty. Asked for a sandwich without cheese explaning that my 88yr old mother in law had an allergy problem."Do you have any ham?" "No, we've run out of ham" (at 1pm?). Asked could a salad sandwich be made up and reluctantly told yes. Then my wife and I had to choose our lunch out of the tiny selection and chose vegetarian quiche and salmon and tomato quiche. Both wedges were very small. We added tea for 3. It wasn't a long wait and the tea was really good. The salad sandwich was tiny, made with very small slices of bread, mostly lettuce, some tomato and cucumber and the tiny slices of quiche (warmed up) were awful. The vegie one was just like solid scrambled egg with a few vegies set in the very top layer and the salmon/ tomato one was the same scrambled egg mixture with lots of tomato, hardly any salmon therefor also not much flavour. Then the bill was $40.00 and that was daylight robbery. They make their money selling 'pick your own' berries etc and maybe are not too fussed whether or not the cafe is good value or not. Yes the place was clean, tidy and toilets good and other reviews do make me wonder if we just happened to catch them on a bad day but beware.

The business is currently for sale, and maybe the drive has therefore left the owners, as our stop here was a huge dissapointment. First of all the place was almost deserted of both staff and customers. The second tell tale sign was a tiny menu and a cold cabinet with only a couple of items in it. After a bit of debate, we decided to abandon this cafe and try elsewhere. As we were walking out the door, still no staff member had some to serve us at the counter!!!

Travelling back from Oamaru we spotted the Butlers Cafe building and made a quick decision to stop. Most of the people there were buying the berries which looked superb and reasonably priced. We decided to look in the cafe part. This area was delightful with its view to the lush lawns and Fruit trees and berries. They even provided some children’s cricket sets to enjoy the outside area. The menu described the food as FRESHLY MADE. That,it certainly was. We ordered the CORN FRITTERS and SALMON QUICHE. We were served by the Chef herself. Both meals were accompanied with a fresh salad adorned with the sweetest strawberries . SUPERB and full of ingredients. The coffee was freshly ground beans. Hot and frothy. Both meals under $20 (another pleasant surprise). We complimented the chef on leaving. She was extremely modest given the standard of expertise. Well worth stopping.

We always call in whenever we are in the area - we first found this Berry Farm some 20 years ago and just love the fresh fruit and high quality products - I challenge you not to buy something if you visit.

Ordered espresso which was bitter and cup was dripping overflow spill. Shame because it needed some care in delivery, fresher coffee and a clean machine.

8 ladies had a lovely meal at the cafe today. The food was very tasty, fresh, well presented and the atmosphere was pleasant. A tidy and clean place. A great venue for us and it would be a great place to stop for the travelling public.

Great fruit, fresh, juicy and flavourful. The food in the cafe is just deliecious and makes you want more. Go when ever passing through there.

We stopped here for lunch en route from Christchurch to Dunedin. The cafe is easily spotted from the road due to the large wagon of giant-size strawberries parked on the verge. We received a friendly welcome and chose salmon & asparagus, quiche and coffees - very nice. We ate our meal in a lovely outside area with views of the garden and fruit farm. A very good place to break one's journey.

Stopped off for a break on the way to Duneden, idilic setting just off the highway with outside garden seating. They serve lovely fresh fruit smoothie and the freshly cooked pankakes with fresh berries and cream were delicious.

Stopped for a coffee and ended buying preserves and having Scones. Good coffee, scones with jam that was made on site and fresh cream were yum. Will call again when passing for drink and snacks.
