Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Genuine Old Skool NZ. Owner, Patrise, was lovely and welcoming. Bigger inside than it looks. Ham and cheese toasties were top drawer. Parking off the street right outside off SH1. Food made fresh, even later on a Friday.

Well worth a visit on route to or from Christchurch. The food was delicious and came really quickly. What made it a cut above the rest though was the lovely owner Patrice who was chatty and welcoming.

Had the fish and chip, fish had hard crumb and I'm sure it was out of a box, chips were hard and cold, salad was nice but had no dressing, have visited Tea Pot Inn regularly and it has always been good, will be looking...elsewhere in the future.More

Wow this is meant to be a scoop of chips 😲😲😲 it's ridiculously over priced at $6.50 and the amount you get for that price

From the minute we walked in for morning tea, my friend and I were impressed. The environment was clean, fresh and airy with plenty of light. Good seating in and outside. Plenty to choose from in the cabinet or on covered plates, all looked good,...especially the selection of pastries in the pie warmer. Gluten free muffins available. Herbal tea & good coffee served efficiently in tall glasses with handles. Food was generously sized and tasted good and fresh. Reasonable prices compared to other cafes. Very impressed with the young man who served us and bought our drinks out side to us. Ideal relaxed atmosphere for a group booking.More

Staff were repeatedly insulting, demeaning and aggressively hostile. Anyone with an ownership interest would have fired staff on the spot because they certainly do not want repeat business. Seriously suspect staff might be suffering from an emotional disorder.

Been before and it's been awesome, but this visit was terrible. Limited selection and the coffee was awful, almost all milk and tepid, no flavour at all. Savouries were greasy too. Men's toilet was in dire need of cleaning, evident it hadn't been cleaned any...time recently. Possibly not surprising the cafe was practically empty. The only positive was the staff who were friendly and welcoming.More

Very pleased to come across this cafe on our way south. Cafe has a real old-fashioned NZ feel to it - nothing synthetic or standardised. Service prompt and obliging. Delicious fresh muffin, real home-made quality. Good range of cabinet food, plus a takeaway menu. Parking...is directly outside, and plenty of space indoors for disabled or elderly patrons, including the toilets. Liked the place so much we made a point of stopping again on our return north.More

Stopped here on the way from CHCH to Oamaru. My wife and I had a couple of coffees and a savoury scone. The coffee was pretty average, if not pretty poor, but the scone was really great. Lovely texture, fresh and great cheese and onion...taste. Didn’t expect the bacon and my wife is a veggie, but it was so good it was worth the effort to eat around. Wouldn’t rate the coffee but the scone made it worth the stop!More
