Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We called in for a hot drink a bit of breakfast after a chilly night in a campervan. Received a warm welcome from the staff, and the place is clean and attractive. The bacon sandwich was outstanding, with the bacon crispy, as requested and wrapped...in lovely multi grain bread. However the cheese scones were in a class of their own. Warm and fresh from the oven, light and fluffy, melted in your mouth and just the best flavour. Great choice on our part and thoroughly recommend!More

Had lunch while charging the car. Friendly staff, fast service, and the food was good and not too expensive.

What a lovely evening. Good food, great service and plentiful. The Jolly Potter is a good place to get a family type meal at a resonable price. We had the lamb shanks and mash which was great. Also the chicken Parma which was excellent.

Took Mum here today and were please to have lovely, funny, genuine wait staff. We had a joke, then were told the lunch special- Sunday roast. We chose the Loaded Nachos to have between us. The BEST loaded nachos Mum has ever had (self professed...loaded nacho expert), and a great intro to them for me! Will be hard to beat. A good price, too! Place was warm and relaxing. Will be back to try more of the updated menu. Glad it is also G, D and V friendly!More

Went in last Saturday, I had the pork belly which was amazing, compliments to the chef. The service was great as it came out quickly and hot and the staff were super sociable and friendly. Love the vibe of the restaurant, feels cosy and calm....Would 100% go backMore

On booking for Mothers Day I was told there would be a fire on and that there would be a selection of meals at a reasonable price. On arriving there was no welcome we were left coldly to sit at out table with no heating....One of the basics to hospitality is to make people feel welcome but this was sorely missing. We eventually found the one blackboard special. The roast proved to be tough and the vegetables were barely cooked. For every mother in particular who has spent their life cooking this was an absolute disgrace. The fill in waitress was most apologetic but the problem is there should be no need to apologise and think that will cover it. It was a special occasion to plan for and this place could not even get the basics right.More

What a wonderful surprise dining in Temuka at the Jolly Potter turned out to be. I popped in during the afternoon to ask the owner-chef if he could cope with my wifes alergy to garlic and the answer was all positvive, so we turned up...on a Monday evening to find the restaurant was full.. But nothing was a problem and waited only a few minutes for a vacant table and the food and service were sensational. I had their Burger Special and my wife the Pasta of the day and both meals were the best taste treats we had on our 3 week road trip around the South Island.. So hats off to all the staff that made our evening rather special. Considering the quality of our meal, the price tag of under $60 for the two meals and a couple of glasses of wine was very reasonable. We will be back!!!More

We both ordered lamb shanks. Two large shanks with gravy. Loads of seasonal vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, beans) plus mash with a cheese sauce. The meat fell off the bones and just melted in the mouth. Service was excellent. Very friendly. The other meals that...came out for other diners looked amazing. Would definitely recommend. Excellent value for money.More

This was, I think, the first time we'd been to lunch rather than dinner. The menu was similar to the later one, but considerably cheaper. However, the food and service were not cheapened or compromised, as both couldn't be faulted. Service from Julie was impeccable,...efficient and friendly (as usual), while the food was plentiful and extremely tasty. Yes, I do believe we'll be back for more of the same sooner rather than later.More

On a Sunday afternoon, there was not a lot of choice in little Temuka, but an okay choice. The place was very busy and clearly they were all locals and known to the business. Our first experience of southern hospitality this trip - we had...no complains. Good service and hearty food. We were more into snack food, but others were here for their main meal and the portions were rather generous.More

Havent been for a while so thought I would go for a meal as heard business was under new management. Prices have increased substantially since last time so didnt end up ordering a meal just got a basket of wedges and some toasted garlic bread...which was basic and also over priced. Too expensive for a pub feed.More

Lovely friendly service & very busy so obviously still popular but the meals have gone up so much in price & the quality has gone down. Only one thing for low carb diners, pretty much everything came with salad & fries, no sign of any...vegetables.More

That was unfortunate our meal was huge and well cooked. I hope you complained to the chef as I am sure it would have been replaced.
